Greetings,
I am in the market for a nicely appointed FJ80 or FZJ80.

I have visited the FAQ on 80/LX450 and compared various years and respective configurations.

What is the advantage, if any, of having an early 1995 A442F equipped Cruiser? IS the A442F more durable than the A343F?

Is there a golden configuration somewhere in the 1991 thru 1997 Land Cruiser Timeline?

Thanks

You will not find a "1995" 80 with an A442F transmission (in North America anyway). If you want a 442 you will need to narrow your search to a 93-94.

D-

1993-94

Thanks for the quick response.

Do you think narrowing my search to net only A442F's is wise?
I only ask because I spent $2200 rebuilding my A440F and I want to put off expensive AT repairs as much as possible on my next TLC.

Thanks

as a proud 442f owner i can tell you not many board members have rebuilt the 343. i would take a 93/94 over a later model all things being equal but few would agree with me and no way would i turn down a 95-97 that fit my requirements to wait for a 93-94 just because of the trannies.

Picking your next Land Cruiser solely based on what transmssion it has is probably being short-sighted. Both the 442 and the 343 have performed very well over all. The 442 will, rarely, exibit a flaring between the 2-3 shift and the 343 will, rarely again, exibit a delayed response when shifted into reverse. The 442 has a slightly lower first gear and makes more noise in first gear than does the 343. Your choice should really be based on the overall package. For example if you want airbags then you need to look for a 95 or newer with a 343 and if you do not want airbags then you need to look for a 93-94

May 22nd, 1996, which was the first time Harold the transmission guy had been laid in 8 months and decided his life was worth living.

Wait a minute...that's the GM forum...sorry...:flipoff2:
