Look in the 80's FAQ
Hey 70 guys,
I just wanted to let you guys know that I did a thread on the A440F tranny rebuild on the 80's section. Look at the FAQ's under 4 banana's and you'll find it titled "...Shadetree Mechanic Style."
As relevance to this thread take a look at SM Part 2, it's at the end of the first thread. I think one of you problems is the torque converters lockup material. If the tranny is overheating while on the highway at a sustained speed with lockup engaged, then I would have to say your material on the lockup is gone. Best bet is to buy a new TC or a better TC from Rodney is Oz. Otherwise you're going to cook the clutches and brakes in the tranny. For the long steady grades, the Oz VB is going to be your best bet as is has better clamping forces to the clutch over the stock unit.
I hope I have helped someone with my lesson.
Sincerely,
Jimmy
