Ive got a 1985 4runner with an auto a340f trans. After doing some research I have found that these a340f's came in a lot of Toyota 4x4 and that around 1999 they slightly switched the design of this transmission. However, I am wondering if I can take an engine from any truck that has a340f trans and was made before 1999? I am looking to put in a 2rz/3rz from a tacoma but I am not opposed to the 5vz. My little 22re is already slow enough as it is but the auto trans rob a ton of power too. Originally I was going to do a manual swap with a 3rz but if that engine already bolts to my original trans that'd save me a ton of time and money. Any help is greatly appreciated.
