Sometimes you guys start to scare me. I see nothing in the photos except some off-the-shelf Tacos, uncovered, on a commercial transport rig, that have knobby tires, blacked-out rims and some rack in the truck bed of unknown use. Other than that the only other mod I can see is a non OEM rear bumper with recovery points (note that none of the trucks in jerico's link have anything but the stock sheet metal bumpers). I didn't see any bullet holes, or even minor rock rash. The leap to special forces training vehicles is beyond me.

Thinking they are SF vehicles sounds way more cool than being used for some dumb movie. And they don't look like Tacomas to me.

Where you finding these "off the shelf" Diesel Tacomas?

I'm sorry Greg but I'd love for you to find me a Tacoma that looks like one of those on the flatbed that is for sale as a regular purchase vehicle in the US.

I saw nothing in the photos to indicate they were diesels. Maybe there was badging not visible in the pictures.

My bad- I guess I thought the Hilux Vigo was only available in Diesel. I know it's offered with a Diesel, I don't know if that is the only way to get one.

I've seen these all over SEA and never saw one that wasn't diesel. Drove a friend's truck in Thailand and it was a bad ass truck. His has over 400,000 km on it and no problems yet. You see these trucks there that are carrying what appears to be loads greater than rated GVW by orders of magnitude and they seem to survive. Saw one in Cambodia with two leaf packs under each side, carrying 19 humans and other assorted cargo. Cambodian ingenuity.

There are a few of the same here in my neck o'the woods. They're getting modded suspensions for all the thick armor they'll get at the next stop ;)

Well to add to all the confusion. My friend sent me this picture today. I asked and it has the off center air intake on the hood, so I have no idea of what is going on with the Hilux in the US. Sadly he didn't take anymore pictures that I know of.

Anyone recognize the license plate?

I think it's a special plate in NM. That looks to me like a Tacoma with a Hilux sticker.

Not those guys from last year Andy...

I remember a few years back--maybe 2004/2005 that Blackwater (er, Xe)--they had brought some Toyota Gibraltar 105's for testing.....

Here is the thread about the Xe guys.
