Man, I wish we could buy those easily here. :frown:

Those are military. Getting ready for Afghanistan is my guess. Probably Special Forces vehicles....

...because every Afghani is born with the ability to wrench on Toyotas.

Onur- if that's true, why would they be in the US. Wouldn't it be easier to manufacture them in Japan, do whatever modifications the spec called for and then ship them to Afghanistan? It's not like NM is on the way.

Maybe I can answer my own question... when has military or contracting procurement ever made financial sense?

My theory: They were at a base for training, were used, and now are being sent to another base for training, for maintenance, mods, etc. There is no logic behind any of this military stuff.

What about the entire fleet of 105 series cruiser at Blackwater in NC?

What about the cruisers that were being used on the Rubicon trail a few years back by the Army Rangers so they could learn off road driving and recovery before they were shipped out?

It does not surprise me to see these in the states.

Heck, they could have been owned by a general in the Middle East who really liked the rigs and is having them shipped home....

Don't forget, Kirtland houses PJ training, which is the Air Force version of special forces for rescues.

No such thing as Blackwater...It's Xe, pronounce like the letter "Z".

....

They were Hummers.

And the dudes were not good drivers.

Those military guys are weird! ;)

Channel 13 just did a good segment on the Osprey's at Kirtland and the Spec Ops duties and the PJ's.

Commented on how NM is much like Afghanistan from a terrain standpoint.

Makes good sense to bring a few trucks to the training area and get some wheel time before you have to go for real.

Osprey IP - were you part of the Ch 13 segment?

An alternate theory - they are being used for a movie shoot here somewhere in the Land of Entrapment. In my travels around I have run across numerous movie sets in NM that had all kinds of weird vehicles/equipment.

Great call since it wasn't a military truck towing them.

TR, I was flying one of the Ospreys in the stock footage. Pretty good segment on the 58 SOW/PJ school mission. NM is a great place to train for our current fight.

I would agree with CruiserGregg and bet they were for a movie. Nice trucks though, I saw a bunch of them and Cruisers of all types in Afghanistan this past fall.

Cheers,
Sean

That's my bet... The SF guys in Afghanistan are getting new rides! The rig hauling them was one of the civilian contractors that haul all the other military equipment across the country.http://www.brian894x4.com/MilitaryTacoma.html

This is cool at the bottom:
"a number of combat Toyota Tacomas that were apparently put into storage and are being ready to be surplussed or scrapped. Note that most of the equipment has been removed and note their extremely worn condition and even numerous bullet holes."

Where are they available at I wonder?
