A question about oil (1 Viewer)

When I bought my 71 fj40 a few months ago I asked the owner what grade oil he used ( chevy 350). He told me he always used 50w oil. I bought it in Paradise, Ca. Now its time for an oil change. My question is, should I stick with the 50w or would it be ok go for 40w or 30w. Bottomline...whatever makes my engine the happiest

Harleys use 50w and 60w oil, becuase they are air cooled. IF your 350 has plenty of cooling i.e. an operational fan and clean coolant I would go with 30W. The synthetic is an expense you probably do not need to got to. IF you are going to spend that kind of money I would use Royal Purple 30w or 40w.
