Anybody got a pic of where these guys mount up?

I know that the grab handles up above the doors have mounting holes on either side, but (by touch) I can't locate the holes for the a-pillar bars.....

Or are they a screw-in where you like item?

They are pre-drilled a bit above the center line I would say. Running your fingernail along it will reveal them. Just screw it in and it's done.

:princess: says it the best thing I ever did.

Sorry, no pics.

Just a little above eye level if you're 5'8" sitting in a worn out seat;)

I can't find A-pillar holes on my '85 either. The parts microfiche for the FJ60 show B-pillar handles, but not A-pillar handles.

There were no holes on my A pillars either. But some wide sheet metals screws in holes that I drilled have worked well for many years.

No pre-drilled holes in my 87. I used nut-certs.

Holes

Obviously I was wrong, they do exist on 62's though.

Yes the holes exist in the 62s but not the 60s and on my 62 (1990) the holes were there on the RT side but no welded nuts ( used nutsert ). great addition especially for Lift and short wife

Short wife - handle = happy. I'll be making that upgrade before the next trip and 100% before the body lift.

Please forgive my ignorance but what is a nut sert and how do you get under the headliner to install these? I am trying to install an A-pillar grab bar on my 89 FJ62 and the nuts obviously just turn without grabbing.

Thanks for any help.

A nut sert is installed into a hole from the front. You need a nut sert tool to install them . It works like a rivit. You put the nut sert in. you tread the right size addapter into the nut sert and the nut sert tool pulls the nut sert tight on the back side. Any body shop would have them. Might be cheaper to have the body shop put a couple in for you.

Good luck

Yeah, what he said. I have a picture of the rivet-style tool in this thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/157615-grab-assist-installation.html

If you go to McMaster-Carr and search "rivet nut", you will also see some that can be installed with a screw driver--called jack nuts (they are like an expansion bolt used in dry wall). I've used these before I got the rivet nut tool. I did get with the jack nuts a throw-away tool to hold the nut from spinning, but I don't seem them mentioned in the catalog.
