Hello every one..
I have a 94 LandCruiser with 230K and going strong..

My most resent problem is with the A/C, one day it just got locked (the belt just melted)... it does it with and withou the A/C tuned on.

I can use a sucket to turn the iner nut on the center of the clutch and event turn it a little by hand (the litle plate)....

Well, what do you think? can it be a clutch and pulley bearings? I hate to take the a/c apart and get a new compressor ($$$) not much to spare this dayss....

What kind of test can I do???

Help!!! :frown:
Thank YouAll,
J_Sooner from Oklahoma...

I think there is a "idler" bearing that allows the pulley to spin freely when not engaged (A/C off) and there is an internal bearing that spins when the pump in engaged. If the what I am calling "idler" bearing is toast then you might have a problem no matter if the A/C is on or off. If you are lucky enough to have the pump on OK condition and just the "idler" bearing out you might be able to just replace that.

This is a GUESS by me and I could be wrong. But I recently replaced my pump because of an internal bearing failing, the idler one was OK. Mine only made noise when the A/C was on.

If it comes down to you needing the idler or pulley bearing you can have mine since it was spinning fine when I replaced it. I will just send you the whole compressor, you pay for the ride.

Hopefully an expert will chime in and clean up my post and send you the right direction.

Thanks to both of you for your replys..
I will try to remove the pulley without disconnecting the lines..
any word of advice? I know there is not much space to work on..

Thank YouAll!!!

Let's see if we can get a post from someone that knows these compressors. I have no problem with sending it off to you if it will solve your problem, but before I do it let's make sure it is possible solution. Like I said above, I am giving my best GUESS as to how it all works.

I don't think there's any reason to disconnect the lines either way you do it..., ie with the compressor bolted to the engine or unbolted. It's tough to get to still bolted to the engine, but that's the way I did it. You need a spanner wrench (which you can get from Autozone in their loan a tool program) to get the center bolt on the pulley off.

FIXED...
I have A/C cold (45 to 50F)... :)

I found the problem and also found the root cause..

The pulley overheated and melted all clutch plastic components as soon as that happen the belt broke in half since the pullie stop turning.

Now, why was overheating? the Belt was not installed correctly and was working some (I though the compresor was low on R13a) but was actualy not turning.

I went to autozone, got the loner too to extract the pullie and got a new clutch/pullie for $65+ at Autozone.... that was all... this time I make sure the belt tension is correct and A/C is freezing cold...

thanks to all for all your sugestions and support..
God Bless..

Thanks for the follow-up post. It isn't done here nearly as much as it should be. This will hopefully help others in the future.
