Hey guys,

I just acquired a 2003 LX and the temp display is showing "--" in the dash. Apparently the HVAC system also uses input from this to more precisely adapt the temperature of the blowing air. Thing is, I can't find this damn sensor to save my life. The closest I've gotten to its location searching here and elsewhere is "behind the bumper on the passenger side". But can someone point me to EXACTLY where it's mounted or should be? A photo or diagram would be even better.

Thanks.

Is this the thing you're talking about, sort of in the bottom right corner of the radiator, just ahead of the crossmember? This picture taken from below, with the camera about in the middle of the truck looking up toward the passenger side. I couldn't see the thing from the top

If you're talking cabin air temperature, then there's a great string here, started by @Muddy Bean

On my '04 it's a shot black rod about 1/4 inch diameter mounted about 2 inches above (and slightly in front of) the frame, directly over the towing hook on the front passenger side. You can easily see it by lying on the floor and looking up behind the radiator on the passenger side.

You guys are AWESOME! Thank you so much. I'm gonna go out and see if I can find it, or if I CAN'T find it (bumper may have been replaced), where the hell the wiring loom went.

Ok, I'm almost certain it's missing. I also noticed that on the DRIVER side, down in the loom that goes toward the fog light, there are two curious unused connectors. I'm wondering if the wiring that goes over to that sensor comes from those unused connectors on the driver side.

There is nothing 2 inches above my tow hook, or anywhere around that area. I don't even see where the thing mounts.

On the driver side I have these two unused (white and harder to see black) connectors down toward the fog light.

Anyone? This is a minor issue but it's driving me batty. Moreover, I want it to be right for the new owner just because I'm persnickety like that.

Really curious about those unused connections and don't have access to an FSM to look.

These connectors were discussed a little while back and mud wisdom was they are redundant turn signal and washer loom connectors I recall. Many of us have them tucked up in the left hand side behind the lights.

Makes sense, I found a quarter piece of a diagram over on a land cruiser forum that is enough to show that the wire harness for the ambient temp sensor and some other sensor wired in line with it travels inside the passenger side fender, so those connectors on the other side don't seem to have anything to do with it.

They actually are used for the Canadian headlight washers...not sure to what "redundant turn signals" refers.

Sorry guys, have been traveling and haven't had a chance to check the thread. Thanks for the info and link to the FSM!

Reviving a 7 year old thread because I thought I was losing my mind trying to locate the "bad" ambient temperature sensor on my truck. The diagram above confirmed my suspicion. It ain't there. Going to try and find the correct plug to splice on and see what happens. When I purchased this truck the auto climate control was schitzo so I swapped in a manual LC control set up. This might have been the culprit all along.
