I just replaced the upper and lower ball joints on the 99 LX470 and then the alternator quit. i managed to get the alternator out through the top but i had to take the power steering pump off of it's mount. next will be the heater T's again. Thank ih8mud forum for all of the tutorials found. forgot to mention----all the alternator needed was a brush set.

Alternators never go out when it is convenient. I treat them as a maintenance item as part of the baseline of a new-to-me vehicle or every 100k miles.

On my last 100 series, a 99, I replaced it 2x via the bottom route. A little tight finding the right angles to wiggle it out but quick and easy.
