Throw the spacers on today while you've got it tore down for the ball joints. 1 in the hand or 2 in the bush...or something.

I had that thought too...

But it won't really save me a ton of work (upper suspension vs lower suspension), and then I'd have to align it right now which I don't have the time for. I also want to get the sliders on before I do that so I have the ride height dialed in when I align it.

What sliders did you go with? I glanced back thru but I couldn't find any specifics. I have been looking at the Stubbs HD-KO sliders, but I am growing rather fond of the the running boards. I really hate to admit that....

DIY style. :grinpimp:

2"x4" rectangle tube for the body, 3 2"x2" outriggers on each side, U-clamps and bolts so they are easily removable. No permanent mods to the frame and will be $100ish in material.

They will stick out about 4-5" from the pinch weld and I will grip tape the top of them to act as running boards. They will pretty much be steel running boards that can take a hit on the trail and act as jack points.

Sliders are scheduled for Friday evening with my fab buddy, it should be quick and fun.

I might also tuck my trailer hitch up while I'm there.

Like these sacrificial skids I built with kickouts? I'm about $14 into these, will prob add kickouts too.

Not quite, though those are pretty cool. Mine will be more like a running board but tucked higher up and a lot tougher.

Well... minor snag with the sliders that makes me kind of sad.

I was under the 4runner today with a tape measure, and there's no way I can make a clamp-on slider fit on the driver's side frame rail. The gas tank is in the way for 2/3 of the legs on that side.

Looks like we'll be welding them on. Oh well, it'll be cheaper this way anyway.

Minor set-back. Seems like I have read some threads about that very problem. I have weld on sliders on my pickup and want to weld some on my 80.

Got so far as to have the slider itself laid out?

Got them built and welded on last night, they are badass. I'll have to grab a picture before I paint them in a bit.

So my friend did snap one picture last night, other than this it was a lot of sparks flying and weld flashes.

Do you have a pic that shows the frame/slider attachment area? Love the look

I didn't... but I stepped out front and snapped one for ya. And thanks, I love how they turned out. Simple, strong and clean looking.

The 2x2x.125 square tube leg butts up to a 4x3x.188 plate. The leg is fully welded to the plate, and the plate is fully welded to the frame.

Oh yeah, one more thing...

Seat covers! Coverking, which are similar to Wet Okole covers but half the price.

Man you had a heck of a day. Things are coming together nicely. Sliders look nice and stout.

How well do you like the quality of the Coverking seat covers ? Been looking for something for the Taco for work since my interior for now looks absolutely perfect ...
Sarge

So far, they are excellent! The material feels great. I got the "Neosupreme" fabric, which is an imitation neoprene. We got fabric swatches to test out and we liked this material better than the real neoprene. They fit very well and install easily.

They're only $150 at Amazon too which is not that bad for the quality that you get.

Looking good! I'm interested to see how those seat covers fit. I need something for the Lexus...

Sent from my Galaxy S III using IH8MUD app.

Get them! :grinpimp:

Update after yet another setback...

Got the ball joints done, that was easy. Then I started playing around with the spacers. I couldn't get the 1" front spacers to fit in a way that I liked so I made some spacers out of the 3/4" UHMW that I had for the rear. So now I need to go get more to make the rear spacers. Right now the front is sitting a bit higher than the rear and it's bugging me.

I built a set from Teflon and they dry rotted after a year or so. So pay close attention to those after some wheeling and time.

can you get the width and height measurements of your CB? I need a new small one to fit a small opening in my trucks dash..

thanks

How big is the hole?

Bellscb.com has most all the sizes listed for every cb he has.
