I made this out of stainless to sandwich by my tailgate. Same principle since I have a camper. They do make mounts like this also. A good mag mount dead center of the roof would be optimum on an SUV.

...

I don't think your radio has an RF Gain. It's gonna have lots of static. I'd step up to at least a 520 at a minimum. Be sure to tune that antenna with a meter prior to burning up the airwaves...then the radio.

I'm going super-budget on this right now so I know it won't be the best setup... If I could get a 520 for $25 I'd jump on it. As it stands this is the cheapest local option.

If the tail-light mount has crappy reception I'll move it to the hood. I definitely need to find someone to tune it but that is also proving hard.

Nice Funner you got there! Slow builds are cool cause they give us something to look forward too. :D I need to get a CB in our rig soon but I'm just unsure what to go with... I'll figure it out eventually. ;) Have fun!

Thanks!

Looks good. As for the rear sag, you could go with a set of OME 906s. They'll give 1.5-2" of lift, and you can use your stock shocks. I have them installed, although I have aftermarket shocks. You can generally find some used for around $100 or so. If interested, I'm selling mine shortly so I can upgrade to 890s (3") coils. Here is a pic of mine, with 906s out back and Tundra setup out front.

Your rig looks great!

I may be interested depending on money at the time... I need to sell some stuff at the moment to replenish my fun money.

What is the Tundra setup you're running on the front?

Thanks. I'm going to be getting the springs sometime in August, so no hurry. I'll post em up somewhere in the classifieds.

The front end is a stock setup from an '02 TRD Tundra Access Cab. ITs good for just under 2" of lift. The coils are progressive, meaning the spring rate increases as they are compressed. They're pretty comfortable ride wise.

I am also planning on adding some Bilstein 5100s that are adjustable, thay way I can increase how much lift I have.

I that a MKII Golf in the background?

Mounted that low, you may need to go with the tried and proven 102" whip. They're fairly cheap and highly durable. You need at least 1/3 to 1/2 of your antenna above the roofline.

Yep, that's my Mk2 Gti. 16v, BBM blue. I've had that thing for 7 years and I love it to death. It's sitting on some crap tires for storage right now... I'll have to find a pic of it on my nicer wheels.

And the antenna is currently about 1/3 above the roofline as it is. I'll try it out and see how it works.

Wanna sell that PNW Dub? My MKIV 20V jumped timing and wrecked the head.

Be sure to tune the antenna before a lot of transmitting.

Here she is in her nicer state, I need to put a couple days' work into her to bring her back to 100%.

As for selling it......... no thanks. Lol. Unless you throw a very large amount of money at me that I couldn't refuse. :D

FINALLY got the CB installed. There is a lot of s*** behind the center console... I had to rearrange the factory Amp wiring and the other wiring harnesses that run through there.

Now I get to tackle the steering column slop today. I'll be doing the roll pin method so we'll see how that works.

Got another project wrapped up!

The steering is amazing now. Following THIS DIY I installed a roll pin into the steering column shaft to eliminate the slop, and installed a plastic shim into the Tilt Column universal ball to tighten that up too.

I had a slight uh-oh moment last night during the installation of the shaft back into the truck... the intermediate shaft between the column shaft and the steering rack (Toyota just calls it "Universal Joint #2") shifted forward and the column shaft then appeared to be 1/2" too short. It was dark out and I was working by floodlight so I couldn't see it well enough to tell. I got frustrated and went in for the night. When I looked at it first thing this morning it was obvious and it went back together smoothly.

Got a couple things done recently on the Runner...

Two of my classes this semester are evening classes so I'm driving in the dark now more than I had before. I'd already replaced the bulbs with PIAAs and they are awesome but my headlights were cutting out whenever I used the turn signals. The contacts in the switch were loose and from what I read it's not worth trying to fix the switch.

5 minutes to swap it out =

$140 out of my bank =

Second, I have been researching what to do for my sagging rear springs. The Rear Suspension Recall would apply to my truck... however the dealer would only install the springs for 15" wheel trucks due to my door plate giving the base wheel size for the 15" steelies.

My preferred option would be to buy a set of '99 4runner Highlander springs but $350 is too much to spend right now. The next option would be just some '98 16" wheel 4runner springs to bring the truck to it's proper height, but that would still be $170. Instead, I found some aftermarket replacement springs made by MOOG which seem to have decent reviews. At $40, even if they only last me a couple years I'll be happy. Brought the rear end up ~1 1/2" from the sagging height so I'm happy with the way it sits now.

(3/4 of a tank in this pic BTW)

Now I need to re-aim the headlights as they are pointing at the ground.

Much better... Now lets go wheeling. :)

Oh and Brake Weight, I have a '89 Helios GLI I'll sell ya cheap...

PNW has all the good Dubs. Mine is going under the knife next month. F4T and all the supporting goodies as well as some low. World's Slowest VW Build. :|

Mr. Norris, the 4runner is looking much better.

Small update with some future plans coming together...

Did the famous "deckplate mod" today. I didn't take any in process pics as it only involved pulling the airbox and chopping a hole. I also pulled the ECU relay while I was working on it to re-map the fuel curves, and threw a piece of hardware cloth (steel mesh) in there to prevent critters from getting in the box. I may add a small piece of filter material over it for some added protection against spray. We'll see.

EDIT: I did end up installing some thin filter material. There was some light spray getting up there and I didn't want a wet air filter.

My highly tuned butt-dyno agrees with the proven 8hp gain. It feels a bit peppier and the intake sound is great.

Near future plans (next couple months) include...

1.25" front spacers which will be ordered soon
.75" rear spacers that I will cut from a chunk of UHMW
Sliders/steps that I will fab from 2x4" box steel
Hella horns since the stock ones sound really pansy
Possibly a new muffler and tranny cooler if Santa decides to be nice to me.

Stay tuned for more!

A buddy did that deck plate mod too and seemed pretty happy with the performance. Nice work.

wow dude... you are such a ricer. :flipoff2:

I think I have some LED windshield sprayer nozzles in a box that I immediately pulled off our old Jetta... I'll have to install them to go with my new ricer status. :flipoff2:

Thanks! It a great little mod, especially for the price.

So does the deck plate mod add more horse power than the K&N FIPK and cone filter? My 2000 Tacoma with 5VZ came with it, so I have no comparison. She does still run like a raped ape with 265,000 on the clock! Do you have the 5VZ in your Runner?

Danny

I wouldn't think that this mod would be better, it's just adding more flow into the stock intake. The K&N system is more of a complete hi-flow setup. The biggest benefit to the mod is that it's damn cheap.

And yeah, it's a 5VZ-FE 3.4l V6.
