Hello High Desert members,

I have a 96 FZJ80 (187k) that needs a lot of work. I have been lurking on the main ih8mud forum over the years and have completed some regular maintenance. I don't drive the truck that often and it has never failed. However, it has slowly been developing more involved maintenance requirements. I last had the front axle rebuilt by Onur some 8 years ago and I believe its time to have it done again. Also, oil leaks have become a real problem. Ideally, I would like to take on more of a refurbishment of the truck and am seeking more experienced eyes to inspect and provide advice as to what is needed and direction. I am open to compensation for the time and advice and of course am willing to drive to them.

Thank you,
Randy

How many miles since the front axle build? Can't imagine it being needed after 8 years unless an axle seal went bad already. Are you going to do the repairs? I own a 95 that I bought a few years ago and have been doing repairs and maintenance along the way. There are a few guys in the club that are extremely knowledgeable with these trucks. I'm sure they'll chime in but I might be able to help too if needed.

Thank you Vegasfj40, the truck has about 43k on it since the axle service. That was actually done in January of 2011. The front brakes were replaced at the same time with 100 series pads and new rotors. All new birfields and bearings as well. I do plan on doing the repairs myself. I can't seem to attach pics of the birfields...it has developed a shake when braking...I'm Corrales btw
