'96 80 won't shift out of "Park" (1 Viewer)

Hello. My FJ-80 1996 was difficult shifting out of "Park". Now it won't shift out of "Park" at all and is stuck in the garage. Is there an electrical lockout or brake lockout that is troublesome? Please let's hope it's something I can tackle myself.

If the taillights are not working you cannot shift out of park without some finagling. The owners manual should have some language regarding the finagling. In short, there is a little cap near the shifter. Pop the cap off and insert a regular screw driver and depress the tang. Bob
