Ok, wondering if anyone can help me out here.

I took my lc to a local shop on Wednesday to have the a/c looked at. the compressor wasn't kicking on. they found a bad ect sensor, and replaced. plus filled the a/c system which was low and fixed the shraeder valve leak.

Picked it up end of day, and it was fine. a/c worked. power was same as ever. 2 minute drive home.

Took it out yesterday to run some trails and noticed on my way i could hear a sucking/blowing sound when accelerating, and the power was way down, and could smell exhaust from the a/c. pulled over and found the supply hose from the egr vacuum solenoid to the exhaust source was missing, and the bottom of the valve melted. no idea how that happened. it also threw 2 codes, and egr malfunction code and a catalytic malfuction code.

so basically, with no exhaust pressure to activate the vacuum solenoid to provide vacuum to the vacuum switching vavle which will activate the egr, i was not running with an active egr. ok, fine, no egr. why would that affect the power of the engine? it might run a little hotter and get more nox threw the cats, but that's about it.

with no active egr could it have clogged the cats somehow in that short amount of time (doubtful)? could it have been put into a limp mode (my scan tool said everything was fine..)?

NOW TO TODAY

i fixed the egr and added nice tight clamps so that doesn't happen again. but the truck is still waaaay underpowered. the shift points feel all screwed up, very hard shifting going up hill. can barely get out of 2nd gear. 1st gear revs way to high even on flat ground, and trying to get into 3rd it seems to be slipping like crazy.

anyone got any bright ideas? the truck was working just fine before i took it for the a/c. they say they didn't touch the egr system, and i tend to believe them, they have been a good shop so far.

Slipping transmission?

I have a 95 as well but that's nothing I have ever experienced. Maybe reset your ECU by unhooking your positive battery terminal, let it sit for an hour, then hook it back up and try it? It's worth a try, anyway. Can't even imagine what happened to your solenoid there, that's just bizarre. Maybe it got unburned fuel in there and it ignited?

The ECM needs the EGR sensor to complete the timing and air/fuel ratio calculations (actually, it doesn't calculate anything, but that's easier to say than explaining what it does do). Pulling the EFI main fuse, for a minute or two, is better than disconnecting the battery, IMHO. Result to the ECM is the same and nothing else gets shut down.

If, after resetting the ECM, you still have recurring codes, you need to look into the troubleshooting section of the FSM. It'll keep you from firing the parts cannon.

It's unlikely that the transmission suddenly failed, at the same time you experienced and EGR system failure. I would not look there first - unless you've been having transmission problems in the past.

Good stuff!

I'll do this when i get back home later this week. And i agree, transmission never gave issues in the past so i don't think that has anything to do with it. Seems more like an engine/transmission management issue with the ecu.
