@Angeltech 100% agree.
Bring it in somewhere to a transmission shop

But if you want to try and do this yourself and are capable. Go thru the troubleshooting steps refer to AT-14

And get back to us

As for parts availability there are master kits available and include parts for full rebuild

TRANSTEC brand

Wholesale automatic transmissions if you want a upgraded valve body and or torque converter and parts.

You could also swap in a used unit or a rebuilt/remanufactured one.

Just do your diagnostics see what you need and go from there. You may just need something simple fluid, wireing, transmission ecu, solenoids…. Etc.
I will and thank you!

Thank you for the great info. I looked into a remanufactured transmission(just in case that was the problem) and all I found were in Australia

I thought the JDM and US trannies were the same
Gas 80s the same diesels are different.

You could get a used transmission from auto scrapyards too but I think that’s a bit of a gamble.

You can check car-part.com

I suspected you were busy with other things from your first post.
So this only happens when it gets 'hot'? Or 'hot' just means operating temperature?
Recommend taking note of the suggestions you understand and can perform and report back. Be concise and articulate in describing what you find with each t-shooting step you take.
Consensus seems to be it's not as bad as the stealership led you to believe; tho keep an even keel and sort it as you can. Most of the potential fixes are easy.
When I drove home from the dealer I purchased the L.C. from, I had to drive 4-5 hrs(90% highway driving). Then about an hour from home I had to stop for gas and when I got back on the highway and I had to put gas o pedal to the floor just to sluggishly accelerate and when I first noticed an issue. When I got to the city where I live I had to deal at lot of traffic and traffics lights, by then, every single time I had to stop and then had to accelerate I had to put the gas to floor to barely accelerate. That is why I was thinking that the problem was exasperated by heat in some way. The past few days that I have drove it I have not had the acceleration issue, but I am also not driving long distances or long periods of time. I will report back thank you.

Yea that’s what meant was the JDM gas tranny being the same as the US gas tranny. Thank you for posting the parts info.
Do your diagnostics.

Start with your fluid

Is it still red and bright?
Does it smell like Burt toast?
How is the fluid level?

Everyone gets busy, and toys take a backseat.

Start with basic, zero dollar diagnosis.

I agree with the numerous comments that you might have issues that are easily resolved with the correct diagnosis, and possibly some very minor maintenance.

i wouldn't drive it until you do your diagnostics. you could be doing more damage than needed

I read all 8 pages and got a gigantic headache because Englis is not my mother tongue I speak עיברית, and it is 1 AM now in Israel

Here in the past, we drove donkeys camels and old automobiles, sometimes on a mule. So it is not 80 specific, but I had me shear off bad transmissions.
Sluggishly accelerate is not something that can occur from bad trans, In a bad trans the engine RPM will go rocket high and the car will not move or will move sluggishly because the trans will slip!!!!
@Angeltech do you have a slip???????

If you do not have a slip most probably it is not the trans!! If you push the gas paddle and the car is sluggish and RPM does not go up it is not trans problem!

If you have an 80 or all other cars with 4 wheel drive a slip it is not necessarily a trans problem, as mentioned by the distinguished and honorable IH8MUD members.

Do you have a slip??

Going to say check front drive flange
when drive flanges go bad it sounds like a wheel of fortune clicking wheel and you ain't oing anywhere!!!!

Unless you center diff-lock

You may be missing that he is dead set on it being a transmission issue.
We’re waiting for him to bring to a transmission shop or do his own troubleshooting via FSM.

@Angeltech, check out Specialty 4WD in Walton, KY. Luke Bogner runs the shop. He's about 1.5 hrs from you but from what I can see, you're needing a Cruiser shop at this point. Best of luck.

I am kind of confused about all the symptoms described here....but the sluggish acceleration on mine was a shift solenoid. Would take off fine in L but in D, felt like 2nd gear. Of course, that was after changing trans fluid, verifying correct level per FSM and adjusting the kick-down cable.

Maybe someone can also fill me in on why you would buy a JDM market 80 that's a 1FZ? Do you still get the cool ice maker? Or do you get car sick driving on the left side of the truck, so you want RHD? $25k seems like it should get you a pretty nice rig that doesn't need work within 6 hours.
