I have a JDM gas ‘94 Land Cruiser(only owned for less than two weeks) with a bad transmission. I purchased from what I thought was a reputable U.S. JDM importer and it end up having a bad transmission. The Cruiser only has 106k miles. The Toyota dealership cannot find the parts to rebuild it. I don’t know where to find someone to rebuild it or find another transmission. I essentially have a $25,000 paper weight sitting in my driveway. I really want to keep it because it has hard to find options(triple locked, console frig./freezer, rear air conditioning and sport mode suspension) I do not know where to turn and I am desperate for any help.

Any idea what kinda transmission came in those 94 JDM models? Is it the same one as the US model?

Just give it a moment I’m sure someone will post up some shop names that can rebuild them. I got a 94 too, a US model though.

Was the vehicle drivable at all upon delivery or did they push it off the trailer in neutral?

Thank you for the reply. I see you are in Illinois. That is where I am moving but now have to wait on getting the Cruiser fixed.

I had to drive home from Michigan which was about 4.5 hrs. I had to stop and get gas about an hour from home and that is when I noticed problems. I put it in reverse and it had a clunky joint. Also, when I got back on the freeway I had to put the gas to the floor just to sluggishly accelerate. When I got home I felt 5he center console and it was extremely hot.

Man stuff like that scares me. It’s not common to read of bad trannys in these cars, especially with that low mileage.

Trust me I am thinking the same thing. The importer I bought from even has a mechanic shop and they stand by that there was no issue with the transmission. That is a joke because transmissions do not just go bad all of a sudden.

Might wanna try this place:

I dont know anyting about the place, but have seen it driving by on 74. There is a thread on here from not to long ago that someone started too. Ill see if I can find it.....

You have done no diagnostics and your ready to replace the transmission.
Does that make sense to anyone?
If the light goes out in your refrigerator do you rebuild the kitchen?

Thank you very much. I am still in Ohio trying to get to Illinois. If they can help I might try the drive there if I cannot find any other option. Thanks again

Look at the tag on the door and itll tell you what transmission is in it. Take a pic of that sticker and post it. Between all of us here, Im betting we can get it figured out.....

I will check tonight, unfortunately I am not home(fireworks). That info should be on the data plate in engine bay, right? The vehicle has been repainted in Japan, believe it or not. Thank you for the help.

What happens when you put it in 4-Low?

I took to the Cruiser to the Toyota dealership and they told me it was bad and needed rebuilt or replaced.
