I was out 'shopping' yesterday and ended up in a junk yard in Sacramento where I eventually found the two front spindles I have been searching for.

The spindles came off a '94 dark green LC with about 240K miles. The truck had been turned in as part of the 'cash for clunkers' program. It was in really good shape and not many parts have been taken off it.

I should have taken a picture but I forgot but here's what I remember seeing: the left fender and flare is gone, the drive line (engine, transfer, rear axle) have been taken from the truck but are still in the yard unsold. Most of the interior is there in decent condition, seats are pretty bad but OK if recovered. All glass is there, running boards look good.

The only parts that are gone are one front axle/drive shaft, don't remember which side, the front spindles and the front grill.

The place is Capitol Import Dismantlers @ 4071 Happy Lane, Sac, CA 95827. The guy running the yard is Jeff at 916-366-4770.

Previous to that stop, I was at a yard in Rancho Cordova and they have a complete front axle with lockers that they didn't want to tear up for me.

Do you know if it had locking diffs? I'm looking for a rear diff harness.

Rancho Cordova seems to be the junked LC mecca around here (Northern California).

Did you check any of the local salvage yards? There's one in Concord, but it seems they don't deal with the general public.

I thought cash for clunkers cars had to have the engines seized by the dealer as part of the deal...no?

If it is a C4C turn-in, the engine is toast (by Silica), and should be painted bright pink. They are NOT supposed to sell the motor, but you may be able to scrounge a few bits off of it if you are lucky. All else is usually fair-game.

Interior parts are good finds, as I took one of the overhead lights from a 91 to add to my cargo area.

Naturally, it show up when I'm out of town..... Anything in the Phoenix area?

I'm pretty sure it has locking diffs. Call the guy and ask him, I'm pretty sure it's there !

Yes, you're correct. They cannot sell the engine as a whole. They can tear up the motor and sell parts off it, just not as a whole !

Steve is correct, see above ! Many int parts still avail. Dome lights, switch panels, all door panels good, lots of dash stuff still there.

Rgds...
