Hello

my current scenario sees me owning a pair of 80 series unlocked cruisers, a very nice 97 with 253k and a fair amount of top end noise, and a semi-ratty damaged 94 with 98k that runs like a top. You can see where I'm going with this. Of course, the 94 vs 97 is a speed density vs mass air system, and the EGR system I believe is different, at least from a mounting standpoint (I'll likely just key fob it if it becomes an issue, as I don't live in an e-check area). Further, the transmissions are different, but I believe the bellhousing is the same? So as long as there isn't any provisions in the cylinder head / block that are different between the years, I think this is a relatively straightforward swap?

I'm just posting the thread as a sanity check, to make sure I don't overlook anything massive, get halfway into swapping the motors, and realize I'm semi-screwed. Any input is appreciated.

I swapped a 97 into my 94. Kept the 94 intake and OBD I.

Only sensor that didnt have a plug in the 94 harness was the oil pan sensor.

No transmission issues

It is much easier going backwards than forwards. IE 95-up engine in a 93/4. To use the older engine you will need to use the following items from the newer model engine: upper oil pan, Lower timing gear and exciter ring on the crankshaft. You will also need the later throttle body, transmission and all engine management from the later vehicle.

Basically you can use the long block after you add the crankshaft position required parts.

OK, thanks. I overlooked the timing / crank position parts. Nothing too serious, luckily.
