A couple of questions about ECU. I have a 93 FZJ80 with ECU # 89661-60220 in it and a parted out 94 with ECU# 89661-60170. Can anyone tell me the difference between the two and are they interchangable? MY 93 has factory lockers don't know if that would make a difference. Thanks in advance for any help.

C-dan can tell you best, but there was a better or updated computer in '94. '93-4s are interchangable.

.

I just updated my 93 that had the 60170 ECU to a 60221 out of a 94. The biggest differences I can tell are the shift points and the rpm difference at highway speeds. Also with the old ECU my truck was not shifting into overdrive.

The 89661-60170 is not original to the 94. A 94 should have an 89661-60221. The 89661-60220 is from an early 93 with California emissions and the 89661-60170 is from an early 93 with federal emissions.

Both are replaced by the 89661-60221.

ECU

Thanks for the info maybe I have a 93 I was told it was a 94 when I got it. I just went out back to verify the year but I got rid of the doors so no info I will look it up by vin if I have nothing better to do. Also any advantages running a Fedral emissions ECU vs a CA one?

The new version of the ECU applies to both emission requirements. I do not know the ramifications of running an earlier computer in a vehicle it was not intended to be in.

Sounds logical I wont try it.
