hi

I have a 93 Land cruiser bone stock

170k miles Was running fine until I started to notice hesitation at take off from stop and loss of power. No check engine or codes. Seems to drove fine once up to speed but the loss of power is noticeable when trying to get to highway speeds.

I just changed plugs and wires and no change at all.

Ideas?

Thanks

I am guessing you are NOT in the USA. Do you have a carbureted engine? We need more details.

Thanks for the reply

It’s a stock 4.5 gas engine . Trans fluid is ok.

start with the easy stuff first. air filter: is it clean? brakes dragging? fuel filter need changed?

strange- I drove the Cruiser tonight and noticed nothing out of the ordinary. All seemed to be ok.

I’m going to check the air filter in the morning ( it’s coooold tonight ).

So the problem seems to be intermittent.

+2 for all the above comments and I would also check the exhaust system, does it sound like its flowing ok? any rattling of metal in the cat?
Can you be more specific on hesitation, is it lagging when you give it gas or does the power suddenly jolt on from a bogged down idle. At hwy speeds does it feel like there isnt enough power to maintain a speed like 60mph and bogs down?
Assuming with the small amount of info provided I think its fuel related which means you just need to work your way down the line from the pump to the filter/injectors.

Before you spend any more money on parts, clean the NSS barrel connector terminals then stuff with dialectric grease.

Had the same problem on my ‘94, took me 9 months to find the solve. Many have success with this approach, hopefully you will too.

This should realistically take you 10-15min

Where is the NSS connecter?

I noticed the hesitation when the car is idling for a few minutes. Once the car is driven ( or if I rev up the engine for a little) then it’s back to normal with no hesitation.

Grey barrel style connector just above your starter motor cant miss it. It may even be unplugged so check it
