Well after a long time with a slow leak and a spotted drive way I decided to order the one piece oil pan gasket from CDan (Thanks Dan).

My question is what type of sealant should I use?

FSM says Apply seal packing material to cylinder block and No.1 and No.4 main bearing caps. It has seal packing part # 08826-00080.

Is there an equivalent to this or a suggested type of sealant.

Also do I need to remove swaybar and tie rods?

Thanks HEFE.

Huh.

You're looking at page LU-13, aren't you?

Before I looked, I assumed the book was just talking about the standard Toyota black Form In Place Gasket (FIPG), which says right on it (I'm looking at a tube of it right now) "For Oil Pan/Camshaft Housing".

This is something else though, and *maybe* only applies if you dug deeper (e.g., removing the oil pump) than just removing the oil pan.

Hopefully someone will know more...

Yes LU-13?

Thanks CJF. I am kind of getting nervous about removing the pan. I do not want to be the guy that wastes a very nice sunny weekend trying to get the pan off. I have read it can be difficult.

I guess I will go get some FIPG. Does it set up quickly?

I really do not understand the No.1- No.4 bearing caps seal packing thing. I guess I will assume I do not need to do that.

Thanks HEFE.

I was planning on tackling the gasket this weekend. I was planning on using some blue permatex silicone along with the new gasket to help hold it into place while I put the pan back on. I am I missing a step (FIPG)?

Reviving an old thread yes - I believe the new Part number for this is 00295-00103 - Toyota Seal Packing 103 (FIPG) For il pan/camshaft housing - for professional use - please correct me if I'm wrong. This is one of 3 threads I found in search on number 08826-00080 found in the 1997 FSM page EG-44, which goes under the head gasket.

I just did this 2 months ago and it was a pain to take off the pan. You can apply heat to make it easier. I couldn't because of alot of oil. Here's a picture of the sealant.
