plenty info about pyro here .. search.

But .. inshort lines, when you have a proper instaled and function fine pyrometer you know the temp on the head .. ( or more close and accuraci reading ) it means you know whe you are reaching the max safe temp on the pistons .. 1250 ºF

With this info all the way you know that you need to pull the gas or .. shifting to lower gear .. etc .. and down theis temp ..

Ok, my bad for being a ROOKIE... I wasn't talking about a 3.0L, it IS a 4.2L HDJ81 that I was comparing the Prado engine to in previous posts, asking if this was indeed a better engine?

Sorry for being so green.
 
the HDT is indeed a great engine (you MUST change out the BEB though RIGHT AWAY)
now about the present situation, i beleive you have a 30 day grace period where you can return the truck to get repaired. DO NOT WAIT, contact your importer today and get his response. this is imperitive if you have any hope of getting support for your claim.
if you wait, you are FUBAR.

10 hours at $3000 is $300 per hour you will get paid to do the drive if need be. if you do not contact them then you are looking at the full bill and MAYBE being able to get some or all the money back.

what was your warranty with the vehicle? you never said which importer you bought the unit from, maybe we know them...

couple points to consider, the upgraded head is the same price as the stock head so go upgraded (3L) and demade to get it from Dan at 4wheel, i know he sells the upgraded heads.

get a proper aftermarket set of guages installed (pyro, water temp and boost) increase the boost to 14 lbs and the EGTs will max at 1000 F.

increase the exhaust as per outline on the site here.
increase the rad to 3X3/4 tubes. DO NOT bypass the cooler in the bottom as you need that to keep the auto at proper operating temps both summer and winter.
