I've only changed the il in a car about ten zillion times....So...Yesterday I'm changing the oil and filter in the cruizer for the umpteenth time and as I pour in the first fresh quart I go..."DOH!" I didn't put the drain plug back in yet...So after a shoulder shrug and another minute I figure I'll put in the drain plug and add an other 8...First time I ever did that....I figure I just flushed some additional old oil out....oh well...At least I had the bucket under there so I didn't drain it on the driveway or anything....

Rob, i'm about to admit something i thought i would never do. I changed the oil a month or two back and forgot to replace the fill cap. Oil fawking everywhere. What an idiot!

So.........you coulda done worse!

Double "DOH!"

Don't ever tell anyone this but about ten years ago I did the same thing and forgot to replace the filler cap on wifes Corola. 1.5 hours later a call from the side of the road with two screaming kids -10F. and a connecting rod through the side of the block. It took me two hours to get to them as I spent a half hour slapping myself and kicking myself in the ass. As I opened the hood the first thing I saw was the filler cap wedjed between the trans and the block. So..... I put it back on and Toyota offered to rebuild the engine as the vehicle had only 16,000 on it.

My oil change mishap didn't create a mess, just time and oil. I replaced the drain plug, but after quart 3 I thought, why the hell is that new filter sitting over there?

luckily for me i took it for a spin after forgetting to replace the filler cap. Stopped at a stoplight and smelled oil. I was like WTF, this baby must have blown a head gasket or something cause she's really burning oil. Went straight home, popped the hood and started cursing.

I forgot the filler cap on my girlfriends Saturn once. I didn't realize it until about the 2500 mile mark on that oil change, the oil light came on. When I went to add a qt, I saw the cap still on top of the intake, oops. It didn't lose much oil, it usually goes through a half a qt every change anyway, and I lucked out with the cap not falling out.
