I might be going to see this 89 FJ62 soon. Never seen/driven a 62 converted to H55 - anything specific to look for when checking it out? 330k miles is high I think, thoughts on what to check related to high mileage? Waiting for more photos & other info.

Thanks

Worst thing for a high milage 62 is the tyranny, which is no worry in your case. Check out the usual, rust/mechanical and let us know

Meh, anything you are going to NEED to do at 330 (if it hasn't been done already) is stuff you you do after purchase because the youngest 60/62 is
twentyseven years old, regardless of mileage. Go for it! :)

Thanks all for thoughts. Got some photos. I'm liking the looks so far.

Got a champagne 312,000 mile AZ truck last year for $2,750 in Phoenix only because it was clean and rust free original paint. Adding a $2,500 transmission does not equal $7,000. The truck was only for a friend in Canada who was using a low mile but rotten Hj61 for conversion.

Remember, all the drive-train, brakes, door hinges, ignition switch etc has 26 years and 350,000 miles.

just being devils advocate.

Yes $2500 transmission, but you still have to account for the added costs of installing it (if you cant do it yourself), rebuilding the transfer case and all the other pieces you have to buy to make it work. So it does come closer to $7k.

Buy it. That thing is sweet.

It's missing the spare tire. I think I'd walk away from this one...

PS. Can you PM me the seller's contact info please? Thanks man.

At 330K miles on a stock engine I would factor in some kind of rebuild in the future. Particularly if you don't know service history. $7K is too much for that mileage, even with a H55f (how many miles on that ?) When gas goes back up to $5, and it will, you'll see these drop back to half what they're asking now.

And at 330k that rebuild may be sooner than later. Also consider the increasing rate of Toyota dropping parts from inventory. For example with the FJ62 the EFI relay and intake tube are NLA.

Just negociate a little and buy it for what u think its worth. Everyone pays what they think these things are worth. When i got my diesel 60 i wad psyched. Theres some rust hidden in places and in plain sight. I paid what i paid cause i thought it was worth it. Id say go for it.

$7k seems high for those miles and the overall condition. Not that its bad, but dent in the door, etc. Then again, there's a 60 for sale on local CL for $6k with 368k with the stock 4 speed. I think that's the world we live in now... decent rigs can/will bring a couple grand over what we are used to seeing/paying. I wouldn't pay $7k for that rig, but if its what you're looking for and you are stoked go for it! A few k here and there in the grand scheme isn't big if you are happy with the truck. If its exactly what you want negotiate a price and ride off into the sunset. If its not EXACTLY what you want keep looking. I would echo the feeling that you won't be keeping it in driver status without some (possibly significant) input in cash and time. So that should temper your willingness to pay full ask... but definitely not your enthusiasm for the rig!

At $7K, you'd be better off looking for an unlocked 80 series with 150K fewer miles - and parts are still available.
