April 23, 2022 will be one year that I’ve owned this rig. I figured I’ve gained enough knowledge from you all that I owe it to the community to start a build thread. I’m not one to go into great detail about things so I’ll keep the posts short and sweet. I’ll answer any questions that you have along the way.
I owned a 78 back in 2005 that I kicked myself every day since selling due to student loans and life. At a point in my life now where I started looking pretty seriously last year. Found this one in awesome shape, same color, one year off, suspension lift and tires to boot. I knew she was the one.
I don’t really consider this a build thread as this 77 was in pretty damn good shape when I picked it up from a mud member last year. Had a frame on partial restoration about 10 years ago. Body and frame is extremely solid no rust anywhere. Motor runs strong the PO had the head rebuilt a year before I purchased it. I’m not a purist but I definitely appreciate most of the factory aspects of the FJ40 and plan to keep it that way.
My main goal for this rig is to make it my own and to have something to share with my daughter along the way. Additionally, I will slowly improve this rig by looking at all of the systems to ensure 110% efficient functionality and drivability.
Again, thanks to everyone for the amazing help you’ve already provided. Any questions please let me know! Go Dawgs!
78 that I sold back in 2005. I’ve always been a Toyota guy. Owned about 10 to date.
