Hello my son has my old 83' mini, and is planning on swapping the drums for disc. he has fj60 rotors and calipers and need a source for some short flex braided lines can anyone help us out.

I bought my lines for the RDB conversion on my FJ40 from them. They also sell kits for mini-trucks. I've never heard of using FJ60 bits on the rear. For rubber lines, the hoses used on FJ40/FJ60s fronts and rears might work if you want to use the FJ60 brake parts.

What are you going to do for a parking brake?

I'm curious what you are doing for brackets.

$120 for a pair of GM Monte Carlo calipers? THAT'S INSANE. I get them from NAPA for $20 each, fully loaded.

he found the bracket on Ebay or some other site . I made my own for my 40 ,printed the bracket off the internet .and did the same thing with napa for the calipers.

Why are you going disc????? Do you plan on running 40" tires? What are you doing for an e brake? Reason I ask is cause I did this early on thinking it would be "cool" wasted a ton of time and money. Seriously, your better off upgrading your drum setup to the IFS size and throwing on FJ-60 wheel cylinders. Gobs of stopping power. The e brake issue was my biggest concern. Life without one sucked!

I detest drum brakes. They are a PITA to work on. Too many parts, those stupid springs, those awful clips that hold the shoes on, and the drums that won't come off. Very glad I made the swap, they work great. I have an old first generation t-case ebrake from All-pro, have had it since 2001.

I had the AllPro ebrake many years ago. Took it off since it didn't hold the truck worth a dang.

Really KLF??? I say drum brakes are pretty straight forward. Sure, they have a few pieces but once you rebuild a set or two they are a cake walk. Also having the right tools makes it easy (needle nose vise-grips are the ticket). I think that rear disc is super overkill. Not saying it's a bad idea but drum brakes do work well and the factory e-brake, I feel, is superior to a t case mounted one. Now if there was a rear disk style like the 80 series cruisers that had the e brake internally behind the disk, then I'd be all for it.

Brakes are never a 'cake walk'.

When I did the rear drums my only issue was the wheel cylinder didn't wanna take the damn brake line. Other then that the rears are easier then fronts. Unless your just changing front pads.

To answer the OP's question, Summit Racing has all the adapters and -3AN stainless hoses you need to make nearly any length of brake line.

Here's the -3 to 10mm male/male adapter that works on the calipers:

Here's the -3 to 10mm male/female adapter:

And here's a selection of -3 braided stainless lines that will connect to the above adapters:

I've used these parts numerous times (backing plate eliminators, extended brake lines, SAS'ing IFS trucks, etc) with great success.

I like pie more than cake any day. Especially a nice fresh banana cream, with real pastry cream, not that Jello crap.

I swapped rear discs in mine.. completely custom. Used Davez rear brackets, heavily modded to fit the ford calipers that had an e brake built in. Used 90s 4runner discs, and ground the axle flange to allow them to fit over. Stops great, and I retained the stock cable for the parking brake.

I've got a thread on pirate about it somewhere. IMO, discs are a great swap, as long as you do it right and don't overspend. My drums were junk, and the backing plate and drum were bent.. so it was a no brain-er.

Let me know how the e brake works.... I'm curious. Thanks

Mine? Been working great. I daily drive my junk; swapped in rear discs over a year ago.

Only thing I might change is the throw of the ebrake cable.. it seems it could be a little longer to get the full hold of the calipers. For now, it works fine and passes inspection perfectly.

Here is my tech thread on pirate:
