I figured it was time to put this project up on the forum as I've been using many others build threads to help fuel my motivation for this build. I purchased my blue FJ60 a few months ago from the 2nd owner. The truck had been sitting for 4 months and was not running. There had been a small engine fire that burnt through most of the hoses and vacuum lines. With 273,000 miles on the stock engine, I figured worst case scenario I'd have to rebuild the engine, get new tires, clutch, and brakes. The owner allowed me to toy with it in his garage. With a new battery, clean(er) gas, and some new hoses; she started, and she ran... I bought the truck for $1,800 and drove it home. After replacing the thermostat, fluids, filters, and adjusting the carb, she was my daily driver until last week. Even so, this thing leaked more oil than I've ever seen. I decided it was time to rebuild the engine and whatever else needed some love.

I started this build on 6/12 with a friend. He is a rather competent mechanic. I'm learning as I go. Unfortunately we have minimal tools, no engine hoist, or jacks. It's going surprisingly well considering. This will be a quick build as time I prefer not to have things lingering around and it's getting progressively hotter each day in Arizona.

my gasket kit and egr blocker from manafree came in yesterday. Followed by my new Nikon DSLR which will be used to document the rest of the endeavor.

Still not sure how to edit the previous post but here are the pictures uploaded correctly from this week.

I'm hoping someone can chime in on this. I'm ordering a new clutch and carburetor. I'm considering replacing the manifold with the manfree headers. Is anyone running these and is the performance increase worth the cost?

What carb are you putting on? I rebuilt mine and am very happy with it. If you desmog the truck is makes it a little easier to tune and definitely cleans up the engine bay. I thought about going with a weber or a trollhole carb but reading some threads - especially comments by fj40jim (guru) about how well the carb matches to the engine, I just stuck with the original carb.

Hopefully some other guys who know a lot more than me can chime in.

I plan on ordering an aisin carb too after reading the same thread. It's lasted this long, I'm sure the next one will last just as long with less abuse.

Your sig says you got your FJ resealed for $1,100? Had I been given that quote I would've had someone else do it. Too late now :)

The truck cost me $1,100. I shudder to think about how much money and time I have spent on that thing. Like you though, I can't buy it so I have to build it myself.
