I have a 8k Badlands winch that needs a home.

Since ill be running the factory bumper, I'm thinking this would be a must for fit and proper installation.

Im thinking that the way to go would be a specific plate that mounted directly to the frame with no modifications.

If there was a specific plate, would there be a demand?

Thought?

Thanks,

Shane

I think there would be a demand for it... There are a number of folks that have modded a generic plate in order to keep the stock bumper and have a winch,,

whats the part number for it ???

For a PTO non US 80 like my buddies.

Not for a US spec electric winch.

It came with the factory electric winches too. Lots of HDJ81's up here have it, you could probably find a used one fairly easily.

Interesting. Thanks.

My idea is to design one that would fit the frame with no mods, a direct bolt on plate that today's winches can mount to and the only modification would be to the bumper skin.

We would supply the plate, mounting hardware and trim to cover the cut section of the bumper.

Not re inventing the wheel, just making it work in our trucks.

Here's some pics of my '91 HDJ81's electric winch for reference:

I want one! I want to keep my factory bumper as well.

A winch plate that could also be a base to fab a custom bumper from would be awesome... It could mount a hidden winch behind your stock bumper, or provide a solid yet removable mount system for a custom bumper.

Just pointing out in case you're not aware - Harbor Freight sells a plate that works on the 40's with pre-drilled holes in the right places. With some modification it fits between the frame rails on the 80. It does have all the holes for modern winches, etc.

It meets some, but not all, of your goals for the project.

HF winch plate - I've done this, to mount an HF12k; the plate needed a few cuts to fit it under the stock bumper of our '93. Went something like this:

The holes for mounting the winch, and the fairlead to the plate, are fine. The mounting holes to bolt the plate to the frame have to be drilled.

If a plate fitting the '80 would have been available, I would have preferred that to the slice-n-dice action with my 4" angle grinder, as I don't have a real setup for metalworking. And of course, pretty much as soon as I had everything done and bundled up, here comes the Slee front bumper...

This thread is relevant to my interests, the only reason to get a bumper is to get a winch so If I didn't have to buy a bumper...well O could then afford a winch!
