Due to the encouragement of several Mudder's, I've built a kit to level out the spare tire under in the 80 series LC.

With a stock vehicle this mod levels the tire out and moves the front of the spare tire further from the ground. There is a support rod under the aluminum tread plate on the rear bumper that sets the height of the rear portion of the spare tire. If you do a body lift and your rear bumper supports raising this rod, you can raise the back of the spare tire and gain additional clearance. The slotted holes in the brackets accommodate BL's from 0 to 1.5 inches.

The benefit of this design is that it gives you maximum adjustability depending on the size and tread pattern of the tire you run. It will fit up to 34.25 inch tire easily and possible a little larger, my slightly worn old-style 315 MTR's fit fine. It would not fit my new-style 315 MTR's which are a true 35 inch tire. There is just not enough room between the last two cross members in the LC for a true 35 inch tire. Also, the style of receiver hitch, if you use one, can also encroach on this space. My 315/75/16 does not fit with receiver installed. If you take it off, it does fit.

This design also supports the tire at all four quadrants so it is firmly in place. The kit also includes a UHMW spacer block to ensure access to the tire winch once the tire is leveled out and new 8.8 (or greater) hardware all the way around (16 bolts and associated washers/nuts) .

The kit is available through AJIK Overland Exchange for $70 shipped to the continental US. The link to their products page is http://ajikoverlandexchange.yolasite.com/products.php

If interested, or if you have questions, please send me a PM or contact AJIK Overland at ajikoverlandexchange@gmail.com.

The pics below also show how well a 285/75/16 tire looks with this kit.

Thank you,

Adam R.

Awesome! Adam great work in design and making this available, can't wait to get it installed!

Final check this morning went great. It fits perfectly.

Kits will be ready to ship on Monday for those that have sent PM's.

Here are a few pictures of the kit installed.

1st pic shows the UHMW space block installed.

2nd pic shows the driver's side bracket installed. With the bracket sitting down on the bolts, this configuration would be for a stock (no BL) LC. If you have a BL, the bracket would be moved up. Highest position will accommodate a 1.5inch BL.

3rd pic is the front tire support and this is attached to the cross member that sits just behind the rear axle.

All brackets use factory bolt holes. There is no welding required.

Thanks,

Adam

Adam,

Received the carrier the other day, very, very nice. I really appreciate the amount of time that you have devoted to make this concept a reality. I spent last night priming and spray painting each piece, in hopes to get the final product installed tonight. The directions that you included are a added surprise and will help the newest of newbs. Just like to say job well done and hopefully I can get a few of my RT install pictures uploaded tomorrow.

Gentlemen-

This is a great solution to a mod that may cost more as a DIY rather than the exceptional kit that Adam is offering. I originally performed the mod successfully and then after viewing adam's solution decided to scrap it for the OEM look and performance of his kit, great product, and good price from a offroad enthusiast.

I just installed my kit tonite. Fits 315/75-16 BF Goodrich KM2 with clearance to the panhard bar, with no trailer hitch attached.

On a stock height '80 like mine, the spare tire is now no longer the lowest point on the vehicle. It can (and will) hang up on rocks and stuff, but is 3-4" higher at the front edge than before.

Easy to install kit. Comes with all new bolts.

Good job, Adam!

I have been in contact with Adam regarding several contact changes for purchasing the tire leveling kit, first the site address for AJIK Overland Exchange: AJIK Overland Exchange, the kit is located under the "Products" tab, the listed price includes shipping CONUS. Questions regarding the kit can be forward here: info@ajikoverlandexchange.com Looking forward to a discussing the benefits of this well designed kit.

I've received another batch of tire leveling kits for the 80 series. If anyone wants a kit, they can hit me up directly or purchase them through AJIK Overland Exchange.

Thanks,

Adam R.

Finally got a chance to take some pics with the kit installed and 315/75/16 KM/2 tire in place. As you can see, it fits and there is just enough clearance for comfort. Works both at stock height, or with my 850/860 springs.

Does this kit raise the ENTIRE tire or just the front (effectively achieving a "leveled" tire)? If so, how much potential additional clearance can be had here?

I've read some of the threads where folks have scrapped their "4x4 TV" bolts used to raise their entire tire, FYI. I just can't tell if this kit truly raises the entire tire itself which I am interested in. 285/75/16 here so no concerns over tire size, also FYI.

thx!

I just ordered my kit and looking forward to installing it

Thank you guys for helping me solve a problem that has been bothering me for a few weeks now

Does this kit raise the ENTIRE tire or just the front (effectively achieving a "leveled" tire)? If so, how much potential additional clearance can be had here?

On a stock truck with the stock tire carrier position, the rear edge of the tire touches the tubular frame above and in front of the rear crossmember. The tire sits at an angle, with a space above the front of the tire for the auxiliary fuel tank, which is not available in north america.

With the levelled tire, this tube is the limiting factor, as well as the floor of the truck itself. The space reserved for the auxiliary fuel tank is deleted by this mod.

The tire now sits level with the ground, as high as possible. On a stock truck with an oversized tire, significant additional clearance is created.

I scored one of the Wits' End versions of this kit used from another mudder, and it works great! Before and after pics below. Gained 3" of additional ground clearance at the front of the spare tire, no gains at the rear, but no room to move the tire up any higher at the rear without modifying the tubular frame crossmember and a body seam. Great design!

For scale, my tires (including the spare) are 265 75 R16 and I have OME stock height replacement springs (no lift).

What is the standard procedure for securing the wiring harness that needs to relocate with this kit? I didn't get any instructions since I bought the kit used. I zip-tied the harness to the gas filler but I'm not sure that's the best way....

Such a roller coaster of emotion. Followed a couple of threads on this only to end of with it being a Wits End product and thus not something I'll be able to buy. Shame.
Delta Vehicle Systems @Delta VS will begin producing these again soon. I know your post is just over a year old, but they’re working on it.
