i did a lot of research on this and drove around for way too long with some blue painter's tape reminding me to replace this part. i finally got around to buying a part and despite all the research it turned into a two day mcgyver episode. i'm glad i took a break as it allowed me to get some more input on the phone on how to manage this.

here is what i did. feel free to add anything helpful.

take a good look at the silver retainer when you take it off. when i went to put the replacement back on i had a head scratch moment because friction fitting it in didn't show any of the thread on the new antenna. but since the silver retainer has internal threads they go down into the hole and capture the antenna below the sheet metal. so you don't actually need any thread showing. at one point i was going to trim down the plastic inside to get it tighter but this is not necessary.

i didn't use the rubber grommet shown below. i assume it is for something but i didn't think twice about it until just now...

word is that the OEM antenna is held in through the frame with a copper retaining clip of some kind. so if it hasn't been removed already yanking on it will just shear the cable. if yours doesn't thread back through easily i would just call it a day and snip it at the antenna. /if/ you accidentally drop it down into the well - and you want to go looking for it - it will be hanging RIGHT THERE so don't try to go spending 30 minutes trying to find a way to fish it up from the bottom of "the void" down behind the wheel well.
i did this so i could tape the new one to the old one and fish it through the frame.
but i found out that it won't work like that anyway if that clip hasn't been removed. so just leave it there.

on the glove box there are two clips. a retainer clip that has two prongs that compress from the outside and it will sproing into the glove box. the "stud" also has two prongs that also compress from the outside and it should release back into the glove box.

just put them back opposite the way you took them out.

i guess some folks say to unscrew the glove box from the bottom and let it hang. but i'm not sure whether it will be easier having that thing hanging down while you are working up under the dash or just having it flop open is easier.

here is where i spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to get the old cable back from dropping it down into “the void" by taking off a fender or getting up from underneath or trying to fish it up from the other side of the door so i could fish tape the new one back through. like a dope.

then i got the bright idea to try to stuff it through this hole for the door wiring. don't take off the wheel well and don't mess with this wiring. it felt like a good mcgyver at the time but i'm glad i waited.

if you reach up and grab it the new cable will just about drop down to the passenger floor. that said, i saw the end of my old cable lying right there and i just about almost hooked up the old cable to the stereo and buttoned it all back up again.

you'll want to route the new cable intelligently as there is not a lot of slack.

the existing stereo wiring had that old electrical tape wrapped around it with the attendant adhesive so i wrapped it with some cable wrap i had lying around.

if you have a cupholder the cupholder goes in before the two screws.

also to remove and replace the stereo i put the keys in and shifted it back into low. once it was out i let it hang and shifted it back to get the keys off to not drain the battery.

red arrow is for anyone that got sidetracked in the middle of this job and couldn't remember where the new antenna plugs in...

I wanted to say how easy it was to install the new oem antenna thanks to this thread.

Took me no more than 20 minutes to do the project and the key was just pushing new antenna wire in that rubber grommet. It will be up behind the back of all that crap behind the glove box. I stuck my hand up in there and it was bunched up and easy to grab.

Advice to anyone with a busted antenna, call Beno and order a factory one. Simple and clean.

Thanks again for the great thread.

This should get added to FA

@hotwheels2017 good write up. Do you have the partnumber for the tabs on the glovebox that you fought with?

Mine didn't come with any of those and I ended up using a dog collar to limit the distance it opens.
