Hello,

I recently obtained an 80-series (1993) landcruiser from a friend on mine and I'm giving it a complete rebuild. The interior is trashed...he ran a trapping operation out of it for years and it's pretty gnarly. Smells horendous too. It's the blue\grey interior and probably needs gutted as many of the panels are pretty tore up. I'm in the process of moving to a new house with an extra-big garage, so as soon as I get in there I plan to gut the interior...at this point it's probably a biohazard.

Anyone know good sources for replacement panels\interior components\seats, etc. It'll probably take a full gutting to get the smell out. I'm in eastern Iowa in case anyone knows any good places around here.

Anyone have any experience bed lining the entire interior? I want to build this as a long-range overlanding rig so I want it to be as pleasant to ride in as possible while still being tough and functional.

Thanks! You'll be hearing from me a lot in the coming months as I am totally new to land cruisers. Not my first 4x4 rebuild\restoration, so I have some idea of what I'm doing. Sorta...

Check the classified section for others that are parting out their trucks. The carpet cleans up pretty good if you remove it and clean with soap and water hose. Be sure you hang it up first or you will be struggling to hang it once wet.

Honestly, I'll be really surprised if the carpet is salvageable. I'm going to pull the interior as soon as I get it to the new shop but I'm pretty sure it currently qualifies as a biohazard. :-P.

Take everything out and try to clean it up first. You'll be surprised how well the panels clean up when you hit them with a buffer wheel meant for plastic pieces. As for the carpet, you could always have it steam cleaned by a mobile auto steam cleaning service. Again, you'll be surprised how well it will clean up. May also save you a bunch of money than having to replace with OEM pieces.

Saving money is always good, but Whatever I do I want to make sure I'm doing it right. There are years and years of really bad smells accumulated in that interior, and I'm worried it'll take a total gutting of the carpet to get anywhere. Also, some of the door panels are pretty beat up and are likely broken\missing clips in spots. I'm sure I'll need to raid junk yards for at least a few of the parts.

Okay there are a ton of options here. First decide what's more important, stock, your way or a combination of both. If you go stock your going to do cleaning and board searches and salvage yard diving. It's gonna take time and it will cost you. Your way is to look into ACC or Stock interiors and buy a full carpet kit to replace your manky interior. You will also pull every interior piece out and give it a thorough cleaning with wax and grease remover. Repair what plastics you can and order what you cannot. You will learn new skills such as upholstery and painting and plastic repair if you don't already know that. You can take your seats and have somebody redo them or clean them and cover them with a few options all over Google. I used Coverking and so far I am enjoying my covers. Your way will cost money too but there will come the satisfaction of DIY unless you're not into that kind of thing. As somebody who is in the process of a complete interior redux I am pretty sure I can speak to your post. Either way it's not cheap BUT if you bought this vehicle then you must have known at least that much. I can tell you from experience too that the interior pieces on these jokers are getting harder and harder to find especially if you have some color preference. I am finally at a point where I realize that I don't want a stock interior look, I want my LC to be my own. You decide. And don't forget to have fun. Welcome to the addiction.

I currently find myself doing tons of research on interior cloth and materials. I have watched a ton of YouTube videos on plastic repair and painting plastic. I am currently doing a black and desert tan interior with desert tan tactical seat covers and a black carpet kit from ACC. I repainted my door interior panels and even repaired material that had ripped. I am even doing a new HU with new speakers and a keyless entry with real push button start. It's a real labor of love and determination at this point.

Lots of interior parts are now discontinued. I would salvage what you can.

^^^^^^ Second this... I am a customer. Stillll parts are becoming unobtainium.

I bought a 97 LX that had absolutely gross carpet. I think the PO routinely poured Cokes over everything. At one point I think he was actually living in the truck !

I pulled all the carpet out, sprayed it with a good carpet cleaner, scrubbed with a brush and used a pressure washer. It took the full 3200psi for 30 minutes to finally get all the sludge out. It isn't perfect, but it looks and smells a 1000x better.

For a free vehicle with 460K miles, I'd just gut it and rock the sheet metal interior. You can throw down some blankets from wal-mart to be ghetto fabulous but the awesome part about your truck now is that it's paid for and keeps going. Don't throw thousands of dollars towards replacing the interior.

So I think I've got a good idea where I'm going to go. From doing some research and checking out everyone's awesome comments, here's my plan: One, gut it. Pull the carpets, seats, etc. Survey the damage. The carpet has gotta go, so that's gonna get ditched right away. As a preventative measure, I may do a spray-in bedliner throughout, but go ahead with a replacement carpet for the sound-deadening property. I'll do my best to salvage the seats...if they're trashed, I'll get them reupholstered somewhere. The interior panels I'll do my best to repair and salvage, but if that's a lost cause, I'll hunt for replacements. Mine has a blue interior, so I'm not seeing a lot of parts for that color. The rear cargo area is going to get drawers, so I'm not going to bother putting carpet down just to cover it with drawers again. I just moved and the LC is now home, so I'll post some interior pictures when i get a chance, which should be soon (just so you can get an idea of how fubar this interior really is).
