FWIW, 97LX450 w/ 181K miles and OEM rack (not being removed).

Looking for some install-type "ahhhh-ha" moments anyone may have had whilst installing a used, but functional, FR Slimline2 rack using the the taller Gamiviti 45deg. gutter mounts. I do not want to remove the factory bits because I am scared what I will find under there and once I start something I cannot stop until it's been taken all the way. The time and money isn't in the budget to do any body work and I really just want a flat rack over my (4) Yakima bars.

I’ve purchased some of the front runner awning brackets from another Mud member and am hopeful I can get everything g to work correctly.

I know that 35s will fit without a lift and that I need one of Joey's turbos but, alas, I'm just looking to get this FR rack installed. Any tips (or available-for-sale slats, I need 2) would be greatly appreciated.

Pictures show current setup including an Iron Man 2m awning.

Got the old Yakima bits sold (thanks facebook) and the top is back to it's original form. I've decided to leave the OEM rails and cross bars just because I don't feel like fooling with the removal and potential rabbit's hole there. The rack I traded for was somewhat incomplete so I should've been, today, receiving (4) new slats, some eye-hook tie downs and (2) cans of their powdercoat repair. I just tracked the package and it's been delayed. Not a huge deal as this weekend is busy but I'll find time to get the rack pulled apart, cleaned, painted and reassembled this weekend. If anyone wants to drink beer at some point, talk about LCs and help me with this rack, I'll buy whatever kind of libation you prefer.

Thanks!

Just an update. Got this bad boy disassembled, cleaned and painted. I used the FR paint (overly expensive but seems like quality paint). Reassembled using 316 stainless bolts, washers and nuts. The FR hardware that I removed was all rusty and crusty so I figured that 316 would be superior.

Reinstalled with an assist from my Dad and @WhiskeyBullets. I opted to not install the small wind fairing but the rack is LOUD between 45-60 MPH. I put some of this stuff from McMaster Carr in the slots on the front and back parts of the perimeter and it’s helped considerably. I’ll end up installing the metal wind fairing on the underneath side as soon as I get it painted.
