ARCHIVE 80-series 1FZFE headers??? (2 Viewers)

We are looking at doing a large production run of our 1FZFE 80-series headers. I need to get a little input from the community so that we can see how many we need to make and that will somewhat determine the cost as well.

Details:
* 304 Stainless steel
* 100% Mandrel bent
* 1 5/8" runners
* "Tri-Y" design for ideal exhaust flow
* Designed to keep EGR functional so you can stay smog legal
* Two designs will be used to work with both 93/94 and 95-97
* 3 piece design for easy installation. Header will be split up into 2 sections (cylinder 1-3 and cylinder 4-6) and there will be a y-pipe
* Optional with 0, 1, or 2 catalytic converters to stay smog legal
* Designed to be a bolt-on installation directly to your EMSPowered exhaust (or can be welded to other exhausts)
* Dyno tested to show real-world power gains
* Will allow for factory heatshields to be bolted on
* Production run, fast shipping times. They will ship within 2-5 days of you ordering

The question for you guys:

Please choose the option that best describes your opinion:

A) I would buy these headers if they cost under $1500
B) I would buy these headers if they cost under $1250
C) I would buy these headers if they cost under $1000
D) Too rich for my blood, I would buy them if they're under $750
E) I have college or kids to pay for, I would buy them if they're under $500

I am not saying we can get the price that low, we probably can't since these will not be a huge volume item. But I am wanting to know what the communities opinion is to see whether it's worthwhile for us to do a production run of these headers.

Up until this point we have built 80-series 1FZFE headers on a build-to-spec basis. Meaning that we have built each set of headers custom to suite each owners needs. It's an expensive way to build them, but for such a low volume item that it has been, it is the only way to do it instead of having $50k in inventory sitting on the shelf not selling.

Your input will be a big determining factor whether this happens or not, so please feel free to simply type A, B, C, D, or E, or elaborate if you'd like on your opinion.

Id much prefer ditching expensive stainless option and doing a steel option thats ceramic coated/dipped for underhood heat control.

Yup, i would not buy it for a few horse power gains. Especially for these pigs. If it were for a performance car then maybe. However they are nice. I think if you produced a turbo version I think that would spark interest too.

I also agree with BnB about the steel version.

beautiful work. I know how much time it takes to design and make these. I would pay under 1000, depending on dyno tests. I'd love to see NA and supercharged gains.

What advantages or disadvantages would these have over the stock exhaust manifolds? What steel type/gauge would they be made from and what would the life expectancy/warranty be? How might this impact underhood temps and noise?

I vote for E, under $500 with a lifetime ceramic coating.

I would do $1000 or less depending on dyno run with the full exhaust and SC also.

Swaintech coatings probably would do a batch price. Their avg header price is $200.....so im guessing they could do large runs for $140-150ish. Id love to reduce underhood temps by 50% at the header.

Personally, I think a great price-point is $750 to $900. You're not going to get rich building them, but it could be a really nice add on for your full exhaust customers or develop rapport with new clients at a lower price point.

I just cant see how picking up a few extra horsepower in these tanks worth the hundreds of dollars. Its hard to beat the stock manifold as it is, but im sure the steel ceramic construction would be a lot stronger than the manifold.

I had doug thorley headers on my 3.0 and it was a complete waste of money. Sure they flowed 100x better. but the headgasket still blew. Granted it picked up about 8-9 horsepower, better throttle response, and a insanely loud exhaust. but When the headgasket went, i went back to stock and sold the headers, smogged it and sold the truck.

Lets see some dyno results and temp numbers with the headers on and with the manifold on.

I would like to see a non-stainless coated design as well. I think lower underhood temps are more important to the majority of us here than a few HPs.

I think a turbo manifold would be a good idea also.

All that being said, under 1000 would be ideal.

I have had many headers in many different vehicles over the years and there are two kinds, those that leak and those that are going to leak. It would have to be significant HP gain and focused towards reducing under hood temps.

These would be good if you have power adders or just like shiny things. If I was a person shopping for this product I would pay 700 to 1k for your set. For others out there....are you planning on having these certified with CARB? Or just as "off road use only" for Cali customers?

You have to keep in mind that not all FZJ80 owners have over 10K in bolt-on options.

Cost will almost always limit your market somewhere.

You have to go for high profit sales short term or volume sales profit long term.

Volume must have a good supply line behind it as well. Turn Around and Customer Service is everything when dealing with the public.

The 80 market is so large why shoot your own foot by over pricing your product from the start?
