So I am watching some of these storm chaser shows and I see them with like chevy tahoes and suburbans. Why not a Land Cruiser? I would think that they would be way better. What do you think. From a tech point wouldn't they be way more reliable?

The VVTI on later years also seems a noticable bit faster than the other ones, but that's probably all in my head. The 5-speed is what's really awesome, shifts damn fast and damn smooth.
VVT-i (or any variable valve timing for that matter) will get you quite a bit of extra horsepower plus a higher redline. On the 2UZ it boosts it from ~230hp to ~270hp.
