why not go buy a LJ71 and swap the spring hangers over for the frame? i looked into this a while back because i loved the LJ71 capability and smooth ride but hated the engine in hind sight it would be easier to swap the sheet metal and engine into the LJ71. because your wheel base is longer than the 71 you would need to swap the mountings.

the frames are the same width so that makes it easier and you will have the factory locations to measure from...

Don't use the 79 axles, it will be a nightmare - I own a 79 and you will be n for some serious mods. Coil the 74, check the aussie forums as it has been done alot. Best to keep the heavy duty front end while you have it - and the 6 bolt rim pattern.

I'm about to chop up a mint LJ71
if you're interested in pics, shoot me an email and I'll take a few for you

pics are from a LJ71 (1987 I believe). The Cruiser looks just like a 70 series but with some messed up looking front fenders
The stock set up road pretty nice. I would imagine it could run even smoother with some new lift springs.
It looks very easy copy or cut off and weld on to another frame.

you would be further ahead to take and sell the complete frame since you can bolt the HD 70 series body shell onto the existing body mounts, use the old mounts from the old frame for installing the engien and tranny...
or if the body is good then sell frame and body and a CND cruiser will have a new life...

I was thinking the same thing. There are plenty of rusted 70's around here
