OVER-NIGHTER

Well its that time a year again, Yet again! It's our 7th year for organizing this and I can't believe how fast time flies. I like to mix things up and always keep the event fresh, so while it's going to be at the Hungry Valley SVRA again, we have exciting news! The State Park has just built a new campground that is not even open to the public yet and we've already reserved it! It's called the Honey Valley Campground and it has all the amenities anyone could want. Fire pit, BBQ's picnic tables, and even an outdoor amphitheater for our Raffle! Again, The campground is near trails for exploration and serves as the gateway to the Los Padres NF.

The Location will be Hungry Valley State Vehicle Recreation Area, Gorman CA Located just north of Los Angeles.

The park is large with over 100 mile of trails and there's something for everyone, not just Overlanders. You can ride green sticker dirt bikes, quads and buggies. We want to appeal to a larger spectrum of folks so we can optimize our Toy Drive success!

DATE
  • December 7th, 8th 2013. (First Weekend in December!). Not too close to Christmas and New Years and a far enough from Thanksgiving. Pencil it in now!

TIME: The ToyDrive is 9am-4pm. Overnight Camping and Day-Use Welcome

FEE's
Day Use - $5 per day
Camping - $10 per night

LOCATION:
http://www.mapquest.com/maps?address=46001+Orwin+Way&city=Gorman&state=CA&redirect=true

WHAT IS IT?:
  • So this is how it works. You bring a new unwrapped toy valued at $10 or more to the meet up. You get a raffle ticket for your contribution. PLEASE NOTE: For every 5th toy you donate you will receive an additional raffle ticket. Reminder so we're clear and everyone has a fair chance of winning a prize... If you drop off 100 toys , you will not receive 100 tickets. Also, new for this year - If you're in anyway involved with the event coordinating, setup etc, you will not be eligible to win prizes.

We also have 3 categories you can win for prizes (See Below). Check out everyones rigs, meet new people and see some you already know. The Marines will hopefully be on site to help out and haul all the donations back to where they need to go. Last year i had to do it all myself and im hoping we don't have to do that again this year.

    FOOD
We will be providing lunch on site. Around noon we serve up Hotdogs, chips and sodas.

Note: If you don't want a hotdog and prefer something else, this is a camp out and therefore come prepared with food. Also, bring water and all necessary emergency prep you may need.

SCHEDULE
Check in to arrive is 9am. We'll be starting the grilling around NOON and start into the raffle about about 3pm. All on Saturday. The rest of the time, you can drop off toys (if after the raffle, you won't get a chance to win anything), meander around and oogle the rigs and meet fellow off road enthusiasts from all over the www.

Sunday, those who've camped.. there may be a trail run up to Alamo Mountain. More information on this as it becomes available. The trail run will be a scenic and simple route. Nothing hardcore.

Trophies & Prizes will be awarded for the following:
  • Most Toys Donated
  • Most Distance Traveled To Arrive at the Event

Vendors are welcome as long as they're not selling items. In other words, come, show up, pop open your camper, show people stuff, but don't setup a booth and start selling stuff. Our state park Permit will not allow it. Remember, this event is about the kids.. not about unloading goods and making money. Lets keep it that way. Please respect this.

Laws & Safety

Dogs are fine as long as they're on leash at all times and they're cool around people, kiddos and other dogs.

Another way to spread the word...

That is so awesome that you do this every year Dave!

I am going to try and make this if I can get the Cruiser in form. If not I will be donating a toy anyway.

I'll be recovering, still trying to catch up to Mo's surgery count!

Bump! Come on guys! I'm working really hard on this, i want to see you all there! We'll have a large raffle again, feed everyone and vendors will show up. Best of all the less-fortunate children will benefit!

Be there!

Bump for a good guy (ha) doing a great thing for some less fortunate kids.

I am dealing with some wiring issues on my '96. If I can get the issue resolved by then I'll be stoked and be even more stoked to drive it to this event. If not then ill have to stop by sometime and drop off a few toys.

I am trying Dave. I am hoping to have the Cruiser wheelable but if not I want to come up anyway. Big kicker is work because we are short 50% of staff in my specialty which means a LOT of mandatory overtime.

C'mon everyone! Dave is a great guy doing a great thing, show up and support him for the kids! I have shown up at a kids houses who didn't even have a Christmas tree, let alone presents. Seeing the joy on their faces when you give them toys they could only dream of is something that is a gift in and of itself.

Bump :D

I can't believe it Dave but I am going to have to cancel at the last minute again. Being a Marine Corps family we do still donate every year to Toys For Tots. If anyone in South OC wants to donate but cant get to Dave or the Event we will be taking a load down to Miramar Air Station and would be happy to take along donated toys from anyone else as well. Feel free to post up or PM me if you are interested.
Thanks again Dave for putting on this VERY worthwhile event every year!

Cancel again? Come on man! Chalk that thing on the calendar and tell the Hospital you can't make it next year!!

Hey everyone, i just want to apologize for not updating this thread as much as i should be. I seriously don't know which way is up right now, it's been that crazy for us.

The event is still on, We aren't letting a little cold weather ruin the chances of making less-fortunate children happy!

This year may be our biggest yet. Vendors are pouring in from all over. You guys should love it.

Please, bring warm weather clothing, sleeping arrangements and plenty of firewood. We may even have some cider or hot cocoa for people. We can be brave for one day to help the kids!

See you out there!!!!!!!!

Also, it's been faster for me to update things on FB than to head to every bulletin board out there. Check here for more updates ...
