Hi All,
I have an issue with my transfer case on my 2007 VDJ79R 4.5 TD.
Here goes.
I did a full wet service, all oils etc on the Sunday, used fully synthetic penrite progear 75-85 (approved on website) in the gearbox and transfer case. I drove 150kms on the Monday when a very noticeable whine deveoped which i immediately associated with either the gearbox or transfer case. After speaking with a transmission specialist i dumped the $120 worth of oil from both the transfer case and gearbox. Gearbox was fine but transfer case was no good, distinct smell compared to the gearbox oil and super fine metalalic sheen through the oil. Now i am looking at refitting a second hand unit from the wreckers which is still not cheap at $1350. I spoke to penrite and they were surprised but offered me a free tub of progear 75-90 to try. No good to me now though obviously. Just wondering if anyone could shed some light on this or if they have had similar problems.
It is my only vehicle so should i park it up immediately until i can replace it or are there other options.
Cheers,
Will.
