79 Gas Tank Swap to 84-Newer Tank (1 Viewer)

Has anyone tried to put a different tank in their 79-83 truck? I want to purchase a new tank. I am making this 79 truck my daily driver, and I want to replace/restore as many parts as possible that will allow this truck to work flawlessly. PLease let me know if anyone has done this.

People that have replaced their carb'ed 22r engines with the EFI 22RE whave switched to the 85+ EFI gas tank. I'm not sure the exact reason. I think the fuel pickup and pump(?) arrangement was different (pump actually in the tank?). Again I'm not 100% sure the reason.

The fuel pump is inside the tank on EFI models. The tank also has additional baffles to prevent fuel starvation when operating at steep angles with low fuel levels. THe EFI pump generates higher pressure and would need to have a fuel pressure regulator installed in the line if used with a carbed motor.
