I know the fuel tank had dirt, rust, and who knows what else inside. I was guessing this stuff got past my fuel filter.

I took the stock carb off and took the top off of it.

In the bowl was 1/2 a bowl's worth of fuel + 1/36 a bowl's worth of dirt, rust, etc. (a pretty fair amount really)

How do I clean the crap out of the entire carb so that it runs right?

How much would a cheap carb rebuild cost?

    Thanks...

Tear the carburetor down completely and clean everything out. Anything less, will likely only leave you continually frustrated.

    Good luck!

The kits are less than $30 last time I did it.

Jim C. is the carb guru.

Your idle circuit is probably clogged, hence the need to actually open the throttle to get it to idle.

Could be a bad idle cut solenoid or a short in the wiring to the solenoid. Try hot wiring the solenoid and see if this fixes the stall.

Also clean out the idle valve assembly with air. The latter is what fixed mine after sucking some fine particulate into the carb.
