I have 2 skid plates from 1976 Fj40's. One is original and has lots of gunk and rust. The other has been sandblasted and painted with 2K epoxy black paint.

I can help you with that. I had to do the same digging a while back to find one for my '76. Here's a couple pics (stolen from ebay) of a FJ40 skid plate for 75-79. Key things to look for are the 3 scalloped edges at the front and the notch behind the drain plug opening for transfer case at the back.

So here are my 2 skid plates. The painted one does not have the 3 scallops only the 1 scallop. Maybe for an earlier year. It has been sandblasted and painted with 2K epoxy. $250 plus shipping. The 2nd non-painted one has the 3 scallops which I think you are looking for for your year. $175 plus shipping. Just let me know if you are interested.
