What is the thickness of a 77 fj40's sheetmetal? Is it 16 gauge?

My '76 is 18 ga. or so. My replacement steel is 16 that I use for patches.

Haha, pre rust. I am going to fix my hard top panels where they are rusted in the top corners. No one will see it really, but I might as well order up the correct gauge. I thought it was 16. I thought 18 didn't come out till 79. But I am not sure. Thus the question.

FWIW my '77 and '74 are both 16 gauge on the body sheet metal. Good luck in your repairs and as several other inmates on this forum have stated previously, a copper paddle behind your patch while welding absorbs the extra heat to prevent warping.

I repaired the lower rear quarters of my '76 with 16 ga steel. It was thicker than the original, so I figured it was 18 ga.
