77 electric fuel pump / carb leak (1 Viewer)

77 hilux with a 20r that has the in tank electric fuel pump.
Are these supposed to have any type of return line/valve back to the tank for when the float closes the needle valve?

It all works, fuel comes up in the carb to the half way point but then it will start to seep out from between the two pieces and around the fuel inlet bolt.
Fuel pump is always running with key on so i'm thinking it's just pushing against the needle but with it closed next place for it to go is from between the seams?

Edit: There is fuel leaking with it running also, fuel level in bowl is 1/2 way up when running.

I was also doing some reading and they had an oil sensor cutoff for the fuel pump, so it only runs when the engine is producing oil pressure/starting.

Is anyone familiar with this system?
