I ran an old Kaymar softop on my FJ40. It worked pretty good however was pretty bad for weatherproofness. I mostly used it as a safari top

Very interesting discovery last night when I disassembled my 40 hard top. It’s green behind the seals! Now I’m curious if this is just related to the top or if that’s my OEM color?

Well I’m fairly confident that my Cruiser was originally Spring Green! This is under the seals on the tub. Not sure if there’s a way to verify via vin, but Spring Green is my favorite color!

Well big bummer. It’s not Spring Green. Not sure why some areas are though. Sad day. Lol.

That might be a green primer from the factory. My 1976 is all original paint and has similar primer under some spots.

Drilled the 40 door hinges just a tad to easily accept the soft top doors. Not loose, but I don’t have to beat them in either.

You can use a nice brass bushing in the hinge to prevent any future wear. I think @SMG sells them.

I managed to get the window down! Bonus, the rust isn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

Removed the old broken fender flares. The rust is bad, but I already knew this section would have to be replaced.

Thanks! I didn’t get them here, but they have them here too...Manuals - Amazon They aren’t the best, but better than nothing.

I thought I should update this. I sold the 40, but for good reason! I had to opportunity to buy my Troopy I sold back and so I sold some stuff to make that happen. A friend bought the 40 and is already pouring money into it. Thanks for the support and maybe someday I’ll add a 40 to the stable.
