I've got the rear drums off, and I think i get how to measure the pads for wear, just caliper the pad + backer, then the backer and repeat.

But how to I measure the drum?

also anyone remember where the replacement specs are for the both, i saw it recently but haven't' chased them down yet.

Also any weird gotchas i need to be aware of, I'm pulling the rear diff and the drums are already off.
I've never worked on brakes let alone drums and want to do it right

Thanks,

Eric-

No big calipers here, so I used a stiff peice of copper wire to measure my drums. Then measured the wire with a tape. I'm sure there's a much better redneck solution, perhaps on youtube.
The Haynes manual has answered lots of my questions. And I've had lots:)

They way I read it, it should be no more than 11.5" on the drum

So i measure the inner diameter from wear surface to wear surface... that makes sense, thanks!

That's what made sense to me. My 71's drums and pads have about 5 miles worth of wear left on them. Still don't know if my engine and tranny are shot so I just rebuilt the cylinders and called it good enough to stop my 40 from going through the garage door when I start it in gear:hillbilly:

Good luck on your project!
