75 series with aoutomatic gearbox

I've got a 1990 75 series cruiser with the 1HZ engine in it and was wondering what automatic gearbox i could put in it? I heard you could put an 80 series auto in but you have problems with electronics.

Or another option im told would be bell housing from 80 series with 60 series auto?

Has anyone ever done this before or seen it that could give me some hints or suggestions as what to do?

You should be able to use the older 80 series transmission. Not much electrics there but I dont know about the fit.
The Japanese models had auto as an option from 90 on

You can put the AF442 (same as the 62 series) in it, that iswhat they came with in the early 90's. (same tranny they put on the 13B-T' around the same time). Can't speak to the bellhousing or input shaft but you should be able to find them, many from Japan it was used a lot on the HZJ77 series.

i was just about to suggest just what Micheal said...the auto was bhind the 73 series, the 77 series so sourcing all the parts shoudl not be a problem...only opening the wallet to do it could hurt. i would be tempted to buy a rougher 73 series, then you have all the parts. sell what is left over to recoup some of the investment...

The problem is he is in oz(presumed) and we never got an auto behind a 1HZ in a 7* series.
The only auto 7* series we got ,were the BJ7*.
This is why he is asking about the 80 series gearbox;)
 
I thought you had a fare amount that were imported from Japan?

Only 15 year old models up to 05 with the 3B or 13BT.
We had a very low number of PZJ/HZJ70 and maybe HZJ73 sold new in 90-92 and I doubt any were auto.
Autos are uncommon in any models except later 80/100 series

Oh, I thought you were like Canada and had a 25 year rule. Well that explains why I don't see more of them in OZ.

I am not sure but I think the input shaft is different on the 1HD-T than the 1HZ, however I know most parts are the same, actually i know the Starter is the same so possible the bell housing and the rest might be the same. I will do some digging.

I've got a 1992 HZJ73 with an A440F

What is the difference between the A440F and A442F ???

Anyone??

Electronics.
I think its also the difference between a H50F and H51F manual gearbix
 
Thanks for everyone's feedback. Haven't yet had any luck but I've also been told that you can put a Chev auto behind a 1HZ. the hardest thing is finding someone who make the bell housing for it.
