This winch is starting to look pretty cool. Pressed in the seals and set the worm gear end play. The new Koyos spin nice and smooth. Got the gear box assembled and sealed up with Toyota FIPG. I know there are no lock washers on side cover bolts. Although those are Toyota bolts holding the cover on, they arent the ones I will be using, I just installed those temporarily to seat the cover so the fipg can dry. Will install with proper bolts, lock washers and torque when the hardware arrives.

The Joint Fuji center arm kit from Cruiser Oufitters went together with out fuss. I wish it came with a better seal, but the seal it does come with is better than the piece of felt that came from the factory. I got the cap started on my 2nd try. Preloading that spring isn't as bad as I have heard. When I disassembled the arm the oem spring wasn't doing anything anymore. That's one more source of steering slop gone.

Got the front end re assembled and aligned per the FSM. Center arm adjusted, drag link adjusted. Steering coupling and sector shaft seal changed. I did adjust the steering box preload screw about 1/4 turn inward. Everything is nice and tight and I would say the steering wheel play is well within spec. The truck still drives like a Cruiser but the steering slop is gone and the wandering from the lack of spring eye bushings is gone as well. Feels much safer in curves, which is great because driving is KY is almost all curves. Also installed the Denso GR starter upgrade, works great!

Where'd you get the trailer hitch? Please don't say it came with it...
My ‘74 came with the same hitch. Based on information in previous threads I done believe that they were OEM Toyota, but they were commonly installed on many trucks in North America. I can’t remember if the supplier was identified... but you’d have to source a used one as they were from the ‘70s.

No idea the weight rating on the hitch, but the frame will bend long before the hitch will. I was going up a very steep slope, lost traction, and slid back down... the hitch took the impact of the 4600 lbs without a mark on it when it hit bedrock. It the frame got twisted in the process. A couple years later the frame was straightening out when I dragged a broken down truck many miles out of the bush with a heavy chain... still no damage to the hitch.

Waiting on parts again. Ordered 125' of 3/8" EIP galvanized steel winch cable. Got the PTO unit disassembled and cleaned up. Going to throw bearings and seals at it. Finished up the winch reinforcements. Getting close to installing the winch head permanently.

Dug out 3 PTO Winches yesterday to evaluate and decide which one I want to clean up and use. Unfortunately I was not able to get any pictures. I've got 3 PTO assemblies, 3 winch heads, and 2.5 shafts with pillow blocks. I should be able to make one work with little effort. I will likely tear everything down for cleaning painting and sealing. Got a few more bits out of our cruiser boneyard for the 75', 4x4 knob, a rear bumper, column cover.
Any chance you can part with a pillow block? Can the .5 shaft with pillow block be purchased?

Any ideas?
Oh yeah, I could engineer a new housing and shaft assembly with modern steels and seals. But I really don't have the time right now. Bringing something like that to market isn't a quick process. What you could do is sell all your winch stuffs to me though. :D

Its hotter than a Wendy's in Atlanta today but I managed to reach a major milestone. I would have the PTO gearbox re assembled but since everybody wants to sit at home instead of work I've had trouble getting bearings. Finger's crossed the correct bearings will arrive this week. Depending on the weather, I may try to tackle installing the PTO gear in the transfer case this weekend. I sourced the 14mm half nuts for the horizontal fairlead rollers through Bell Metric. They are the correct 19mm wrench size and as close to OEM as anyone could hope for. Pics below with part number.

This information is two weeks late. 😏

I cleaned mine up on a wire wheel, with a few shots across the garage and then a search. Thanks.
