Hi everyone I'm Jason and I am brand new to Ih8mud. I am currently restoring a 1974 FJ 40. When purchased the entire brake system was shot. So far I have ordered Man-a-fre disk brake kits for the front and rear and now I am looking for a set of wheels to replace the stock wheels that will no longer work with the disc brake kits.

I would like to run 33's once it is all said and done so my question to the group is what wheel and spacing/ offset have you guys used once the disk brake kits have been installed?

I am thinking I would like to run a 15" x 8" wheel with the 6 x 5.5 lug spacing and a -19 offset. thoughts?

Thank you for any info on the topic.

why do you think the 74 rims will not work?

My original 74 rims are welded rims that can be used with disc brakes... the 73 rims and earlier were rivited... they definitly do not

BTW welcome to Mud :)

what month/year is stamped on the rims? i dont have the exact change over for the rims ....but... sometime pre 11/74 as mine are stamped

most 74 came with drums all around.

15x8 with 3.75 backspacing MAX will work with front discs.

When I purchased my disk brake kits the sales man who sold me the kits informed me that stock rims would not fit due to a clearance issue. My stock rims are indeed welded but after inspecting them last night I think it would be more trouble than it was worth to try and rehab them due to the rust and corrosion on each of the rims. also they are extremely narrow and I do not think a 12.5" wide tire could be run with them.
