Next up was the seat install. Pretty straight forward except the adapter brackets were off by 3/16” on the passenger side rear. I also bought some new seatbelts from seatbelts.com.

Overall very happy with the whole project. I no longer have raw gas fumes inside and the seats are comfy with the legroom I need.

While I was in the painting mood, I removed the poorly black painted bezel, stripped and repainted to match the bumper. I know it’s supposed to be white, but the stock color looks like you got the paint code wrong. So I just went pewter.

I finally received my retro plate from the DMV. It ONLY took 7 months

So my lack of a working gas gauge was keeping me up at night. The stock sender I installed in the replacement tank doesn’t talk to my aftermarket gas gauge. I had 2 options, get a gauge that speaks Toyota or get a new sender that speaks aftermarket.

A new gauge that can be calibrated to whatever you have was around $200 and would be a gamble as to if it would ever work right.

A universal sender was $40 and at least I would be sure my gauge could read it. So I bought the sender. Autometer 3262 33ohms full/240 empty( THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH FACTORY GAUGES!). The specs say 5 bolt standard mount, which looked pretty close. But every hole needed to be about 2mm wider. Long story short, it’s in and it works! I’ve never been so happy to see a gauge read 3/4 tank!

Nice, I’ve been having the same problem . Bought another stock cluster , took the two apart cleaned and greased the odometer while in there. Reinstalled and my fuel gauge still does not work. Going Dakota Digital next.
Some nice poser pictures, my family and I go out hiking on Finley road. Here’s a pic of my neighbor and my fj40’s in case you see us in town some time.

Btw he just installed a Holley sniper on his chevota 350. It’s scary fast in a swb

What spare tire carrier is that

Love the look of this rig. Personal opinion, but those chrome FJ40 emblems on the bib need to fall off! Thanks for keeping us up to date on upgrades, this thing is CLEAN.

Thanks. It pretty clean but the pics make it look spotless, which it is not. I agree with you about the added on letters but there always seems to be something else that needs more attention. Like yesterday I found the alternator is checking out!

@Slapshot Any updates on this beauty?
Actual work on my 40 has been sparse. The top is currently blown apart and awaiting me to put it back together. But thanks to @zerotreedelta , I should be making some progress soon. He graciously sent me a care package of rivets and a custom rivet tool to jumpstart my project.
For the last 2 months I’ve been making a gazebo/carport to park my land cruiser out of the elements. But that’s done now so back to work on the top
