well ive joined the dark side and bought myself a 71 fj40 on 37's 350 etc now I do have some work to do to her still.. my question is the stock J30 3 spd is stuck in 2nd gear and the truck sat for 3 yrs does anyone know the fix or the problem with this? possible stuck shift fork shaft?

any ideas

I had a similar scenario when I bough mine and found that the previous owner had water in the transmission and caused the shift rods to be rusted in place.

Pull the top plate off the transmission and you should be able to see if what's going on. Hopefully it's just a shift rod on the top plate and not issues with internals.
